Worthing Tutu Tuesday - A Celebration of All Things Pink and Fabulous

It's Tutu Tuesday in Worthing! I love that this glorious town is embracing the joy, freedom, and expression that comes with wearing a tutu. From the iconic pink tulle poofy ballerina style to the modern, short, layered, edgy look that makes it perfectly acceptable to rock a tutu on the street, it's a sartorial win for everyone. Let’s be honest, what’s not to love? When we're talking about tutus, we’re talking about more than just a garment – we’re talking about empowerment, about embracing our femininity (and masculinity if that’s your thing), and, most importantly, about having FUN. My tutu story is a whirlwind romance. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been mesmerized by the magic of tutus – the swirling fabrics, the sheer volume, and that iconic twirl. This week, Worthing embraced its inner ballerina – and I was thrilled to witness it! There were fluffy, classic tutus for the fairytale lovers, romantic and ethereal styles in soft chiffon, and more daring, modern versions with edgy embellishments that are perfect for an urban explorer who still wants to keep that elegant, graceful feel.

The Joy of a Good Tutu * For the classic princess ballerina look, go for a long, poofy tulle tutu. * For the contemporary fashionista, try a shorter, layered tutu in a fun print like leopard, zebra, or plaid. * Feeling daring? Pair a fitted top with a flowing, soft-pink chiffon tutu that will take you straight from day to disco night in style. This Tuesday was the day to put on your finest pink garments, slip on your fanciest heels (and if you feel like it, some sparkly tights!) and show the world what tutu magic can do! I personally went for a playful, classic bubblegum-pink, mid-length tutu in layers with soft ruffles around the bottom for a feminine touch, a silk top in black with glitter sequins, and glittery, neon pink sparkly trainers for the urban edge that I loved so much.

A Celebration of Individuality and Inclusivity Tutus have been celebrated as a symbol of strength, resilience, and the pursuit of our own unique beauty and creativity for ages – think Audrey Hepburn in "Funny Face," Beyoncé’s tutu moments on stage and those amazing tulle ensembles on the catwalks in recent seasons. Tutu Tuesday is about celebrating diversity. It's about expressing ourselves – regardless of our age, gender, ethnicity, or personal style! What started as a sweet homage to my favourite part of ballet (come on, who doesn't love tutus!) quickly became about embracing who we are and sharing it with the world! It’s a reminder that there's no “right” way to wear a tutu. That’s the message, isn’t it? It’s okay to wear a tutu to work if you want to. If you feel most comfortable dancing on the streets of Worthing wearing a sequined, neon pink jumpsuit and a poofy, silver-sparkled, fluffy tulle tutu and knee-high leather boots with the words “Queer & Proud” scribbled in gold on the side – go for it! Wear it with pride. We need more fun, we need more self-expression, we need more confidence! And to show solidarity with the LGBT community and their powerful stance for equality, many have opted for the rainbow-coloured tutus! And why not? Tutu Tuesday is not just about the garment; it’s about a message of individuality and solidarity with our amazing LGBTQ+ family and their allies.

My Tutu Story - How I Found my Tutu Queen Growing up, my first memory of a tutu was a beautiful ballet costume I owned for a school play when I was five. That little pink tutu (a standard, knee-length, classic ballerina number) set something ablaze inside me that never truly died out. As a young girl, the freedom, elegance and elegance that came with swirling and twirling that simple yet impactful garment had me in awe. It felt like it made me an incredible superhero. But I wasn’t allowed to dance ballet when I was young because my mum was adamant that all girls must take jazz. I did dance – but years went by, and ballet never went out of my mind. Years later, in my teens, I saw the movie “Black Swan” – with its gorgeous costumes, dramatic plot and strong female characters, my tutu fantasies came back to life with a vengeance! It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I took ballet lessons again and my love affair with tutus was re-ignited. I started taking more serious lessons, even did a year of classical training, and realised the tutu for me was less about what it looked like (though it still makes me melt when I look at a classic ballet costume – the elegance of the shape, the fluffy tulle!), and more about how it made me feel: Confident. Brave. Like a princess! I think, I think every woman needs at least one tutu in their lives – because why not? They're so much fun!

Where to Find your Dream Tutu Luckily, you don’t need to go far. Tutu Tuesday was the day to get yours! You can easily find fabulous tutus from various shops on our town’s famous, charming, beautiful High Street. From vintage finds, brand-new designer pieces, and custom made wonders. In case you miss out this week, try the gorgeous ballet shops, dance stores, vintage clothing shops, and department stores. They have some brilliant selections in the usual ballerina shades and lots of different patterns, colours, and embellishments – perfect to embrace your personal style.

#TutuTuesday in Worthing: Beyond Fashion In my eyes, Tutu Tuesday in Worthing is much more than a trend; it's a way of celebrating femininity (and of course, anyone who wants to wear one can wear a tutu!). It's about freedom of expression and confidence. And what's even better – everyone’s invited! It was amazing to see families joining in with a rainbow-hued selection of colourful tutus in various sizes. We saw moms in pink polka-dot tutus with their kids, grannies in shimmery silver with their granddaughters, groups of young girls in glittery black tutus, and older women sporting stunning, classy purple tutus. And the boys? Well, they decided to dress in pink tutus and glittery rainbow jumpsuits and it was the most wonderful, uplifting celebration of everything positive and joyous about Worthing and how it celebrates individuality. It’s a truly unique event, which is why I feel strongly that Tutu Tuesday needs to stay and become a part of our fabulous town’s cultural life. Why You Should Join in on the Fun Here’s my manifesto – and a list of the many reasons to put on your most awesome tutu (or another pink, sparkly outfit) and get involved in #TutuTuesday! * **Feel Amazing**: You know when you wear something you love, you feel like you can conquer anything? That’s what happens with tutus. * **Celebrate Confidence**: The power of the pink outfit lies in its simple statement, in how it reminds us to embrace what makes us happy and strong, and to rock our fabulous selves! * **Shine on:** Take inspiration from disco balls and be a shimmering beacon of light – spread some joy. * **Be a beacon of fun!**: The fun, colourful tutus and sparkles help to spread a sense of happiness, creativity and self-expression. And really, the world needs that. * **Embrace Self-Love and Celebrate Self-Expression**: Tutus and everything they stand for make you celebrate who you are and all the glorious parts that make you, you. In Worthing, our town truly embraces all that Tutu Tuesday represents – fun, creativity, self-expression, freedom, and community! I’m sure I’m not the only one who hopes Tutu Tuesday in Worthing becomes a monthly event – if we show the organisers the fantastic support that was there on this fabulous Tuesday, we’ll show that this fabulous fashion phenomenon has legs and can really go the distance. I certainly can’t wait for the next one. #Tututuesday #TutuPride #Worthing
