Tutu Tuesday in Belfast: A Whirlwind of Pink and Pride

Hey gorgeous peeps! It’s your girl, Lily here, and let me tell you, Tutu Tuesday in Belfast was an absolute dream. As a ballet dancer with a penchant for all things pink and a serious passion for tutus, there’s nothing that gets my heart pumping faster than seeing the city transform into a vibrant, whimsical wonderland for the day.

From the moment I stepped out of my apartment and spotted that glorious pink streak of a tutu on the neighbour’s door handle (such a fab way to start the day!), I knew it was going to be a good one. The streets were alive with laughter, rainbows, and of course, tutus! From classic puffy romantic tutus with tiers of tulle, perfect for pirouettes, to sleek and stylish contemporary tutus that look equally amazing in the barre or out on the dance floor, there was a tutu for every style and every personality. Even the little ones were getting in on the action – seriously, those tiny tutus are just the cutest!

And then there were the colours! I swear, there were more shades of pink than you could shake a tutu at. Candy pink, blush pink, bubblegum pink, hot pink – you name it, it was there! The best part was seeing how people had put their own personal spin on it. Some rocked bold accessories and statement makeup, others went for a more subtle look. It was a true celebration of individual style, and that’s what made it so amazing.

One of my absolute favourite parts of the day was watching the impromptu dance performances happening on every corner. It was inspiring seeing people of all ages, backgrounds, and dance levels embracing the joy of movement. Whether they were spinning a flawless pirouette, striking a fierce pose, or simply having a good time, it was all about embracing the spirit of the day – a spirit of fun, inclusivity, and celebrating the power of movement and self-expression.

But Tutu Tuesday was so much more than just a fun day out; it was a celebration of everything that’s amazing about Belfast! I felt a sense of pride that was truly infectious, as everyone in the city came together to celebrate our shared love of dance, our dedication to diversity, and of course, our love for tutus!

Here’s a few things that made the day extra special:

  • The Tutu Parade: Imagine hundreds of people, all clad in tutus of every colour and shape, strutting their stuff through the city centre. There was laughter, there was music, there was even some impromptu ballet moves! The whole city turned into a dance floor, and everyone was ready to get down! It was honestly a scene straight out of a disco dream.
  • Tutu Crafting Corner: They had set up a little spot where you could DIY your own tutus! It was so much fun, and it added another dimension to the day. It was like a dance-inspired art studio. And trust me, everyone’s creations were as unique and fabulous as they could be!
  • The #TutuesdayTumble: Now, this was a total riot! Basically, it was an obstacle course full of oversized, squishy pink foam blocks, shaped like tutus. Think giant bouncy tutus you could run and jump on – imagine my inner child’s glee. This, along with the bouncy house decorated in shimmering tutus, was just the kind of silly fun everyone needed!
  • The Dance Workshop: The icing on the cake, and I was so happy to get to join! Professional dancers led us through some killer dance moves, giving us a chance to showcase our tutu-clad awesomeness, from ballet to jazz to salsa! It was a fabulous workout, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t want a workout that involves spinning and twirling in a tutu?!

Tutu Tuesday in Belfast wasn’t just a one-off event; it was a reminder that dance is a universal language, and that together, we can build a world that celebrates everyone's individuality.

I already can’t wait for next year's Tutu Tuesday! Belfast, you have outdone yourself. You truly know how to throw a tutu-tastic party! #Tutuesday #TutuPride #Belfast
