Tutu Tuesday in High Wycombe: A Celebration of Sparkle and Pride
Oh, High Wycombe! You are blooming lovely today, as always, but today something special is happening. We're celebrating Tutu Tuesday - an absolute dream of a day that makes my heart sing like the strings of a grand piano, or if I'm honest, more like the infectious beat of a Donna Summer classic! It's all about tutus - the frothiest, twirliest, most glorious tulle creations ever to grace this wonderful town! For those who haven't discovered this magnificent movement, Tutu Tuesday is all about embracing the joy of tutus and wearing them with a confidence that says: "You're lookin' at a fabulous, tutu-clad goddess!" We all have a right to express ourselves, and sometimes, there’s nothing more freeing than spinning, dancing, and generally being fabulous in a magnificent tutu. For me, it's about more than just fashion; it's about spreading love, joy, and a sprinkle of fairy dust across High Wycombe and beyond! #TutuPride When we celebrate the freedom to wear what we like, no matter how silly or glamorous it might be, it's about taking a stand for self-expression and LGBTQ+ Pride. You know, my favourite colour is pink, it just screams "disco vibes!" and I think it totally brings out the vibrancy of any tutu. A tutu with a splash of pink makes you feel like a superheroine! Speaking of vibes, I have to say, this morning started off bright as a new pair of pink glitter ballet shoes and now High Wycombe feels positively buzzing with #Tututuesday spirit! * We've got the classic, poofy tutus. * We've got dramatic, floor-sweeping tutus with enough tulle to build a tiny palace! * We've got mini tutus with their delightful puffiness adding a cheeky twist to any look. * And I'm even seeing a few tutus that look like they're straight out of a vintage disco ball (can you say fabulous? Yes, please!). It’s magical! And to add to the spectacle there's not a single frowning face around today. Instead, smiles abound! Tutu Tuesday is like a gigantic, glitter-strewn hug to every wonderful person out there - we're in this together! My Tutu Story Before we go further down this path of sparkling magic, I should tell you about my first Tutu Tuesday experience. My dear friend Charlotte, she's a bit of a wild child and has the greatest sense of fun (her tutu is totally fierce, she's got this thing for sequins that I just adore!) decided that a Tutu Tuesday had to happen. So, Charlotte took on the task of turning this tiny High Wycombe village into a swirling kaleidoscope of colours! It wasn't exactly Tutu Tuesday yet. It just happened to be a rather chilly October Tuesday back in 2021 - the start of a great journey that started with Charlotte, then me and now includes hundreds of amazing tutu-loving folk. That first Tuesday I wore a classic white tutu with bright pink sequins. I know what you are thinking! A splash of pink on a classic white? It was a real winner! Even as a ballet dancer I love to play with tutus and experiment with the classic shapes! You see tutus come in all forms - the traditional "pointe shoe" styles. They even come in a sporty shape and those, my friends, look super cute paired with your favourite gym kit. You want something extra special for that super fancy evening party. Well "aubergine velvet with sparkling black tulle" - it’s stunning. Honestly! And for day-to-day wear? Well, cotton tutus are perfect. Go forth, try it out, you may surprise yourself! Now we are not just a group, we’re a tutu-clad community. So many of us have felt a sense of belonging on this spectacular journey and this is why Tutu Tuesday means so much to me and why I’m so proud to be a part of the growing community. And don't even get me started on how excited we are about #TutuTuesday celebrations coming to a small village called West Wycombe next month. Now for the most important part of Tutu Tuesday... I must leave you with this important tip! Always be prepared! Always have your trusty tutu waiting, like a fairy godmother, ready to sprinkle a little extra joy onto any Tuesday.
