Tutu Tuesday in Saint Albans: A Celebration of Sparkle, Pride, and Pink!

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-obsessed blogger, Lily, and guess what? It's Tutu Tuesday! This glorious day where we get to celebrate all things tulle, twirls, and fabulousness. And where better to do that than in the charming town of Saint Albans? I'm talking tutus galore, colourful cocktails, and an abundance of rainbows – get ready for a whirlwind of glitter, because we're about to set the stage ablaze with Tutu Pride!

Now, let's get real, I know what you're thinking: a tutu? In Saint Albans? Seriously? But trust me, this town is bursting with style and attitude, and I’m here to tell you that tutu wear is definitely on the rise!

To kick off our Tutu Tuesday celebrations, we headed to the gorgeous new cafe, The Sugar Plum. As soon as I walked in, the décor sent me straight to dance heaven – all pale pink, crystal chandeliers, and velvet sofas that whispered 'you are a star!'. My favourite detail was the pink neon sign, of course: "Be You, Sparkle Boldly," it beamed. Could this be a more perfect tagline for Tutu Tuesday? I don’t think so.

The Sugar Plum, like a true purveyor of all things wonderful, served us a delicious array of pastel-hued cocktails and cakes, a beautiful homage to the pastel-palette of tutus I adore. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve always had a bit of a thing for a pink tutu. Just the sight of it – that fluffy, floaty loveliness – it just makes me feel like I can take on the world! But today was all about the diversity of styles, celebrating every form of tutu glory!

My personal style tip for Tutu Tuesday: embrace the power of the classic romantic tutu – a swirling, gossamer delight that can make even the simplest outfit feel magical. This week, I was wearing the most glorious ballet-inspired blush pink tutu – a confection of layers upon layers of tulle – I literally felt like a fairy princess! But if you're feeling bold, why not rock a funky modern tutu? There were some fabulous bright coloured designs with disco-inspired sequin patterns at the Sugar Plum and even one brave soul dared to wear a super glamorous feathered tutu! That’s what I love about this day; everyone can express their individual style. The tutu really is a blank canvas for creativity, so you can really go wild.

After indulging in our delicious drinks and dazzling cake, the festivities moved on to the heart of Saint Albans. With its cobbled streets, quirky shops, and enchanting architecture, the town is already bursting with an air of fairytale magic. But add in the sheer joy of Tutu Tuesday and the scene was truly captivating. As we strutted around, spreading tutu-tastic vibes, there was just this amazing energy. Locals grinned, people on their way to work stopped and smiled, kids chased us with delighted shouts, it was simply divine! It’s an absolute joy seeing how infectious the happiness of a bright pink tutu can be!

Here are a few highlights that made this Tutu Tuesday unforgettable:

  • A group of youngsters sporting neon tutus, rocking their heart out to some 80s disco tunes.
  • A stylish dog, wearing a tiny lavender tutu. It even had its own little tutu bag filled with treats, which the owner was diligently feeding to it every time we saw them.
  • We saw some truly wonderful street performers too: a fantastic troupe of modern dancers performing in black tutus, their movements full of energy and flow – a sight that captivated the crowd with every graceful jump and spin!
  • A pop-up "Tutu Craft Workshop" where kids could design their very own tutus using fabric scraps and sequins, crafting their own fashion masterpieces!

Tutu Tuesday is not just about looking fabulous. It’s a wonderful opportunity to make a stand for all things joyful and positive. It's a reminder that expressing ourselves, whether it’s through clothes, music, art, or simply through smiles, is powerful. That's why the LGBTQ+ community has adopted the day to celebrate their pride in a vibrant, fun, and unapologetic way.

I love how Tutu Tuesday has become this amazing platform to celebrate individuality, inclusion, and freedom of expression. Seeing so many people in the community embrace the tutu and its joyful spirit makes me truly happy and I feel privileged to be part of a day that’s so vibrant and encouraging.

As we ended our Tutu Tuesday adventures with a final twirl outside the majestic St Albans Cathedral, the pink hues of the setting sun painted the town in a beautiful glow, making for an absolutely perfect finale. We were leaving with hearts full of sparkle and smiles radiating all over our faces – and maybe a slight hint of tutu envy from everyone else!

I don’t know about you, but I already can't wait for the next Tutu Tuesday. Keep an eye out on my social media, follow my blog, and remember: Embrace the tutu, celebrate the magic, and spread the Tutu Pride!

Love,

Lily xx
