Tutu Tuesday in Kingsport, Tennessee

Hey there, fellow twirlers and tutu enthusiasts! It's your girl, Sarah, here, bringing you the latest from the world of dance and fashion! Today we're talking Tutu Tuesday, and guess what? Kingsport, Tennessee, is showing up with its A-game! This city is definitely giving off those "Southern Charm meets Ballet Belle" vibes and it's a treat for all the senses.

Let's talk tutu styles - we saw it all today. Some were going for the classic, elegant ballerina look - think flowing, tiered tulle, like the ones in the Nutcracker. You know, the type that whispers dreams of sugar plum fairies! Others embraced the modern look with tight, pencil-like silhouettes. This was giving us sleek and powerful, think more Black Swan vibes! There were even some edgy creations, think asymmetrical hemlines, layered with fabrics that were not traditionally found in the world of tutus. That's what I love about fashion, it always finds a way to surprise us.

The energy in Kingsport today was electric, almost like the energy we experience in a ballet performance right before the curtain opens. You could just feel the excitement radiating in the air. There were families, young kids in adorable tutu ensembles, college kids, maybe they're in their school's ballet club, and then of course the fashionistas like myself who take tutu Tuesday as a chance to play dress-up and show off a little. It really shows how tutu Tuesday brings everyone together.

Kingsport is one of those places where the spirit of ballet is so strong. They're bringing that classic New York City Ballet to the South. Their local ballet company, the Kingsport Ballet Academy, is booming. Every Saturday morning I swear you see tutus and ballet shoes more than casual outfits! They are putting Kingsport on the map as one of those must-visit locations for all things dance. We are definitely getting our share of inspiring ballet studios popping up! But beyond the fancy footwork, it's about the passion for the art, and Kingsport has got it in spades.

Let's not forget about the fantastic food scene. My absolute fave, The French Laundry Bakery, did not disappoint today. The bakery had the cutest pink and purple themed macarons! They definitely understood the assignment. Seriously though, it was almost too cute to eat, almost.

Okay, back to tutus, because you know that's what we're here for! Here are my top five moments from Kingsport's #TutuTuesday:

  • I was in awe of the senior citizens who were totally embracing the #Tututuesday trend! You know you are getting old when you see 70-year-old ladies sporting tutus and enjoying themselves just as much as anyone. There's never an age limit to twirl with glee.
  • I can't forget those cute kids strutting their stuff in tutus and posing for photos! I can tell you, the children are the real fashion icons, because they never hold back! If you aren’t rocking a tulle tutu in your 20’s then take cues from the tiny ones!
  • Saw a few college kids from the local University (ETSU, y'all!) who coordinated their tutus! Think pink and blue tutus with white shoes, it was totally adorable! And I hear the ballet club there is super popular!
  • You gotta appreciate those folks who actually made their tutus themselves! Kingsport is an awesome hub for DIY, you can practically smell the crafts and the sewing machines buzzing.
  • It wouldn’t be a tutu tuesday post without a tutu dog! Some girl on Instagram, with a pink fluffy pompom-style tutu, had a dog with a tiny white tutu matching her ensemble. I may have died and gone to fashion heaven. You are probably seeing that in my post on the Instagram later.

Kingsport is a prime example that fashion is about embracing individuality, no matter where you are. There are many ways to wear a tutu. A little shimmer here, a splash of color there! #Tututuesday Kingsport showed the world what happens when fashion, passion, and community converge.
