Tutu Tuesday in The Colony, Texas, USA

Hey everyone, it’s your girl, Blair, here, bringing you another installment of Tutu Tuesday! It's the day we all celebrate the wonder that is the tutu! And oh my, what a wonderful world of tutus we've got here in Texas, you guys. This week, we're taking a trip to The Colony - and lemme tell ya, these Texan tutus are on fire. Get your coffee and pastries ready, it's time for a tulle-filled adventure!

I recently traveled to The Colony to judge a regional ballet competition. These dancers had such a phenomenal amount of talent! It really reinforced to me that ballet in America is in good hands with a new generation of ballerinas who are so talented! Of course, I couldn’t resist making my rounds around The Colony and looking for some amazing tutus! You know me! I’m obsessed with tutus!

One place I simply had to check out was “Ballet Boutique on Main Street.” Talk about a T-shirt slogan, huh?! Anyway, Ballet Boutique has the most awesome selection of tutus, you guys. I mean, I seriously had to take a second to pull myself together. There was everything: Romantic tutus that just had a kind of “fairest of them all” vibe going on – with lots of soft, delicate tulle in the sweetest shades of pastel, paired with floral lace embellishments - and some serious professional grade tutus - I’m talking dramatic, powerful layers and intricate details – truly some ballerina magic. There’s also these crazy awesome contemporary tutus! They had a few styles with these super funky, geometric lines - it was like ballet couture. I have to say - I actually had a total “moment” when I tried on this one dreamy, soft pink tutu - we’re talking seriously princess status - and when I twirled, oh my, it was like magic! I definitely had a moment right there in the dressing room! I could imagine myself dancing in a field of flowers - maybe this tutu deserves it’s own Instagram story!

Next, we're hitting the iconic “Dance and Tulle” studio - now this is where The Colony's ballet community truly shines. It’s a gorgeous studio, you guys - and the energy is so inspiring. The space has a cool, modern feel but it's got the perfect balance of elegance, so it's all super refined and gorgeous. As a fellow ballerina, I always find so much inspiration in the way the light shines through the windows and highlights those delicate tutu details. The Dance and Tulle studio features both classic and contemporary tutus. If you are looking for a perfect princess style tutu for your next recital, Dance and Tulle is where to find it. Think traditional classic tutus, but also playful ones - all the way to edgy, fashion-forward ones that could make you question whether it was actually a tutu!

Ok, so if you’re planning to visit The Colony - which you really should, I recommend taking a trip to the City Hall - the architecture there is absolutely amazing! And it has the cutest, bright pink, fairytale-worthy tutu fountains - no, for real, it’s just incredible. There were a bunch of kids having a ball, running around them - such a happy memory I will treasure for a long time!

My absolute favorite moment of my trip to The Colony was watching some amazing young ballerinas perform at the Ballet Royale’s annual “Tutu and Tales” event! Now, I have to tell you that this show was so incredibly powerful and touching. It featured dancers from different studios across the region and they really showcased the diversity of the ballet scene. You know, from contemporary works with minimalist tutus and intricate movements, to classic, gorgeous tutus from the stories we all know and love – so beautiful! One dance particularly stuck with me – it was a contemporary piece where the dancers wore these edgy black tutus. It really felt like the fabric was in dialogue with their bodies, so powerful. They just brought a modern and avant-garde touch to the tutu! So awesome, right?

My Tutu Tuesday travels in The Colony have once again reminded me of the power of ballet, the magic of the tutu, and the boundless possibilities of beauty that can be found when you embrace all things creative. Now, go on and take some Tutu Tuesday inspiration from these amazing Texan ballerinas!
