Tutu Tuesday in Pearland, Texas: #tututuesday

Hey y'all, it's your girl, Blair, back with another installment of my #tututuesday series. This week, we're hitting the streets (well, the dance studio floors) of Pearland, Texas, for a celebration of all things tulle.

Now, if you're a fan of #tututuesday, you know I love me some ballet history and I'm always on the hunt for interesting trivia. Did you know that Pearland, Texas, actually has a pretty vibrant ballet scene? That's right, folks! Ballet in the USA is alive and well, even in the heart of Texas! And there's a reason for it - ballet, at its core, is a form of storytelling, and Texans love a good story!

Pearland boasts several dance studios dedicated to ballet, and one of my favorites is The Pearland Dance Academy. This beautiful studio has a rich history in the city and a focus on classical ballet training, but they also offer a diverse range of classes, including modern, jazz, and contemporary. What I really love about PDA is their commitment to supporting young dancers and providing a fun, welcoming space to learn and grow.

Speaking of "grow," Pearland, like the rest of the country, is experiencing a boom in ballet. In my humble opinion, #tututuesday is just a reflection of that growth! And, if we're talking about the "growing pains" of the ballet world, it definitely applies to the fashion! While the traditional ballet tutu has stood the test of time, there's also a burgeoning market for "modern" tutus, like the contemporary tutus featuring layers of chiffon or asymmetrical designs that add a modern edge to the classic look. It's pretty wild, honestly, but the "modern" ballet tutu is really having its moment in the spotlight, especially among younger dancers.

Now, here’s where I need to talk about my personal style. It’s really a “less is more” type of thing, and I lean into that when I’m choosing my #tututuesday tutus. For me, the romantic "traditional" tutu style, which features multiple layers of tulle gathered at the waist, is always my go-to, and that's what I always pack for #tututuesday - a classic, timeless look. For a #tututuesday at the studio, I prefer a classic romantic tutu in a simple blush or pale pink color - I like to let the tulle and the dance itself speak for themselves.

If I'm heading out after class, I’ll definitely jazz up my #tututuesday look by pairing it with some simple, yet chic, accessories, and always some serious lashes for that "drama." I like to think it's like "modernizing" a timeless piece, a touch of Texas swagger. And that, y'all, is how you #tututuesday in Pearland, Texas!

Here are a few #tututuesday tips, direct from this Pearland native and fellow dancer:
