Tutu Tuesday in Wausau, Wisconsin

Hey everyone! It’s your girl, Chloe, coming to you live from the heart of the Midwest – Wausau, Wisconsin! Yes, you read that right, Wausau. It’s a place you might not expect to find a ballet-obsessed girl like me, but believe me, there’s a blossoming love for dance here, even in the most unexpected places. Today, I’m kicking off my very own #Tututuesday. Let's take a trip to Wisconsin, embrace our love for tutus, and discover the magic of dance beyond the big city lights.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Wisconsin, known for its cheese curds and fall foliage, not exactly the first place you think of for tutus and grand jetés. But let me tell you, the dance scene in this part of the USA is thriving! It’s all about the passion for the art, and the incredible energy of communities coming together.

Speaking of tutus, oh, my tutus! They are so much more than just fluffy skirts, they're wearable art! I’ve always been fascinated by the history behind each style: The classic romantic tutu, billowing with its tiers of tulle, evokes the delicate beauty of the 19th-century. The dramatic neoclassical tutu, a masterpiece of precision, reflects the streamlined and powerful movements of the 20th-century. And don’t even get me started on the variety of contemporary styles – you've got your lyrical tutus, your playful pixie tutus, and everything in between.

My personal favorite, however, is the contemporary tutu. It's all about pushing boundaries, finding that perfect balance between freedom and control, and embracing movement with an effortless flow. For me, the perfect tutu reflects that kind of graceful power.

My Wausau adventure started with a visit to the Wausau Conservatory of Dance, a hidden gem brimming with talent and history. I felt like I had stepped into a fairytale with all the twirling, the pirouettes, and the sheer joy of dancing. It was a heartwarming reminder that the love for dance transcends age and location. We got to spend some time with the instructors and the young dancers who were practicing their routines – talk about inspiring!

Next on the agenda was the most wonderful community gathering: The annual "Dancing on the Square" in downtown Wausau! Imagine a summer evening, bathed in golden sunlight, with live music and food trucks galore, all while watching dancers from every level gracefully twirling and gliding on the paved square. From adorable ballet dancers in miniature tutus to seasoned professionals in the most breathtaking creations, it was truly a celebration of all things dance!

As the sun set and the air cooled, we sat down for a delightful dinner at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art. I have to say, the energy in Wausau is something else, it’s filled with art enthusiasts, foodies, and of course, dancers, and that contagious excitement radiates from every corner! It made me realize that maybe those “small town” stereotypes are outdated and that the most beautiful art can emerge even from the least expected places.

If you’re like me and live for the joy of dance, you really should come see the Wausau area. And what’s the best way to commemorate a great adventure like this? By sharing it with you all. So join me in celebrating #Tututuesday!

So here’s a few things you can do: * **Step up your Tutu game!** I'm not saying you need to be a seasoned pro, but how about trying a tutu with a modern spin? You can even pair your tutu with a cool oversized shirt, some chunky sneakers, and even throw on some sparkly accessories. * **Grab a friend or family member and hit up your local dance studio!** Get that dance energy flowing with a ballet class, or even try a different genre – jazz, tap, lyrical! Dance is truly a universal language. * **Spread the love for ballet and #Tututuesday.** Share a picture of your tutu with me! I’d love to see it. Wausau, you have truly stolen a piece of my heart, and I can’t wait to visit you again.
