Tutu Tuesday in Saginaw, Michigan: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Grace #tututuesday

Hey everyone, your girl Sasha here! It's Tutu Tuesday and today I'm bringing you all the tulle and glitter right from the heart of Saginaw, Michigan! As you know, my passion is ballet. I grew up dreaming of dancing on stage and living that life. Even though I spent the majority of my early ballet training in Chicago, the memories of performing with Saginaw's very own Bay City Ballet are still so vivid!

This past weekend I got to head back home to the mitten state and it’s so good to be back, exploring what Saginaw has to offer and, of course, seeing what everyone's wearing on #TutuTuesday. You guys, the style scene is really stepping it up!

I was thrilled to see a ton of young ballerinas rocking out the classic romantic tutu in light pink, which always takes me right back to Swan Lake, and there was even one little dancer wearing a beautiful tutu with layers of pale blue tulle— I swear, the dreamy tulle brought tears to my eyes!

As I've gotten older I really love the style of the contemporary tutu, so I was really stoked to see a few local college dancers experimenting with modern tutu styles— think structured silhouettes, dramatic lines, and bold colours, and a little bit more coverage for a sleek and minimalist look. This type of tutu lets dancers show off their powerful movement in new ways, while still maintaining that sense of ethereal beauty that I just can't get enough of!

We also saw a couple of fun, edgy styles! I especially loved a street-style twist on the tutu, where a local teenager paired a full-length tutu in a stunning turquoise shade with a bomber jacket! So unexpected, and she looked totally fabulous. She definitely got my attention and inspired me to try something new this #Tutuesday! I don’t know about you guys, but in Saginaw, everyone is ready to break the mold!

Of course, what is Tutu Tuesday without a stop at the Saginaw Arts and Cultural Center? I just love this building, the historic architecture gives me goosebumps! I was fortunate enough to catch the ballet “Paquita” at the Saginaw Performing Arts Center. I'm so lucky that such a small town is packed with amazing opportunities for dancers!

It was a real treat to spend Tutu Tuesday with so many inspiring young dancers! Let me know what kind of tutu you wore in your city today, tag me on Instagram @Sasha_on_pointe and show off that dance spirit, I would love to see it! I can't wait to do it all again next week for another #tututuesday.

See ya then, friends, and keep dancing!
