Aurora has become a hotbed for ballet in the USA, and with its thriving dance scene, it's only fitting that Tutu Tuesday has become a local tradition. The energy in the air is contagious - everyone's just bursting with tutus!
I was thrilled to be invited to a special workshop at the Aurora Ballet Theatre. This renowned studio has become synonymous with dance excellence, and its dedication to fostering young talent is inspiring. This month, their theme was "Tutu Transformations", showcasing different eras of tutu design, from the classic Romantic to the contemporary. They even had a pop-up shop with vintage tutus for sale - imagine the envy I had!
I wore my go-to tutu: a stunning powder-blue tulle confection with delicate hand-stitched embroidery and layers of netting that create a cascading effect. It was the perfect combination of whimsical and sophisticated. I was truly a princess in my tutu!

She had me stumped with a question about the difference between a "Romantic" and a "Classical" tutu - it’s basically all about the amount of fabric! I’ll never forget this, I’ll ace any future tutu trivia!
- Tutu Treats: Aurora's vibrant culinary scene was on full display as we feasted at a charming little café that even served a Tutu Tuesday special! They had these delicious lavender cupcakes that reminded me of a ballerina’s pointe shoe! Who knew Tutu Tuesday would bring us cake?
- Tutu Showcase: Later, I headed to the Aurora Ballet Theatre for the highlight of my day! The "Tutu Transformations" workshop was phenomenal. From classical, romantic, and contemporary styles, to new-age, experimental, and fusion, the workshop took us on a mesmerizing journey through tutu history. Each student’s expression was phenomenal.
Let me tell you, I learned a lot about tutu evolution and styles today! Who knew tutus could have so many different histories and variations!
