Tutu Tuesday in Allentown, Pennsylvania: #tututuesday

Hey, fashionistas! It's your girl, Claire, checking in from Allentown, PA! I know, I know… Allentown might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think "ballet," but hear me out. Today's post is dedicated to the unsung heroes of the dance world: the tutus. I'm talking all about Tutu Tuesday in Allentown and how you can add some ballerina flair to your life!

First things first: **what is Tutu Tuesday?** I’m so glad you asked! It’s a movement that I started with my Instagram followers to celebrate the beauty and joy of tutus—all day, every Tuesday. I mean, come on, you can never go wrong with a little bit of tulle, right? We all have our busy weeks with jobs, errands, and adulting. What better way to inject some fun into your life than by putting on a beautiful tutu and twirling your worries away?!

We've come a long way since the days of the traditional romantic tutu, like the one I've been wearing in rehearsals for Swan Lake this week, that were made with several layers of tulle and are quite poofy. Now, there are all sorts of styles, like the "contemporary tutu," made of modern materials like nylon or satin, and "experimental tutus," which are anything but traditional. We've seen tutus in all sorts of styles: layered, fitted, short, long, glittery, colorful… you name it! There's a tutu out there for everyone!

My personal favorite is a romantic, ivory-colored, full-length, soft tutu that feels like it could melt right into the moonlight, especially on a crisp evening. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a white tutu that catches the light and dances gracefully. But this Tuesday I’m trying out a different kind: a fun pink tutu with sparkles and glitter. My pointe shoes will be the perfect match for the sparkles and will definitely stand out against the traditional tutus. Maybe I’ll add a headband too to keep my hair out of my face and feel the absolute embodiment of a fairy! Just imagine dancing through Allentown like that! How could you resist trying out Tutu Tuesday yourself?

And here’s the fun part—it's not just for ballerinas! Tutu Tuesday is for everyone, from little girls in tutus dancing around their living rooms to adults channeling their inner ballerinas at the office or grocery store! I’ve even seen some stylish people use tutus as skirts or as a piece of their everyday fashion!

Here are some ways to get involved in Tutu Tuesday:

  • Share photos of yourself wearing a tutu on Instagram with the hashtag #tututuesday.
  • Post a video of yourself twirling or dancing in a tutu.
  • Throw a Tutu Tuesday party and invite your friends.
  • Make a donation to a local ballet company.
  • Wear a tutu to a ballet performance, even if it’s not a romantic, classic, white tutu with several layers, because even experimental tutus have their place on stage.

I even created a fun challenge on my Instagram. All week, my followers and I have been posting what kind of tutus we are: romantic, experimental, or contemporary. I also encourage them to use a fun and creative pose with a different kind of tutu on different days of the week. Let’s face it, when you're rocking a tutu, it's all about the confidence, the joy, and having a little fun!

One thing I learned since being in the professional ballet world is the importance of community. It's not just about showing off the artistry and hard work of ballet. It's about embracing your individuality, inspiring others, and celebrating what brings us together! Tutu Tuesday is a great reminder to be brave, bold, and fearless and it all started right here in Allentown, PA!

I'd love to see your Tutu Tuesday pics. Don’t forget to share them on social media! Don't forget to tag me! #tututuesday and have fun! This one's for all the ballerinas (and soon-to-be ballerinas) out there in Allentown!
