Tutu Tuesday in Ashington: A Whirlwind of Pink and Passion

Alright, darlings, it’s time to twirl into the spotlight, because you know what today is, right? Yep, it’s #Tututuesday, and trust me, the tutu game in Ashington is fierce!

I’m Olivia, your resident tutu aficionado and resident ballerina. And let me tell you, seeing those twirling tutus in Ashington town centre is an absolute treat! I mean, who knew there were so many tutu lovers in our little corner of Northumberland? And even if I didn't know it, this week I certainly found out!

First off, there’s a bit of history we have to talk about because let’s be honest, tutus are far more than just a fashion statement – they’re a statement of dance, a tribute to grace, and a powerful symbol of a performer's artistry. And, let’s face it, tutus are basically tiny sculptures on your body!

I spotted one gorgeous tutu, the romantic 'en pointe' classic. You know, the ones that make you want to leap into a dance performance. You could almost smell the rosin on that particular one – like the memories of a dancer’s past. This is a staple, the timeless classic. I also spied a tutu that felt a bit ‘on the rocks.’ Its design was all spiky, like an edgy ballet student at the barre with an opinion!

And speaking of on-the-rocks, the Ashington community was ready for an evening of cocktails and dance, all for a fantastic cause. A local dance school organized ‘Tutus and Tipples’, a fundraiser that involved live performances and dancing galore, and I was happy to judge the best dressed! Let's face it, you can’t go to a #Tututuesday bash and *not* wear a tutu! And guess what? People went all out – even the local florist! And boy, that one was a masterpiece – we're talking a tutu constructed entirely out of pink peonies!

You could feel the community spirit in Ashington as I wandered through the market square. So many people, young and old, were out, embracing this fabulous Tuesday. One of the shops had created a special "Tutu-Tuesday Offer," a free coffee and a complimentary pink cupcake with every purchase. This felt *so* much like Ashington!

For those of you who haven't caught the tutu fever, let me just say that tutus aren’t just for professional dancers. I have seen some wonderful interpretations out and about in Ashington and across the internet:

  • There’s the “Casual Tutu.” This one was perfect for a casual shopping day out, like you see on all those fashion bloggers you follow!
  • Then there's the “Grunge Tutu,” for your punk rocker inner ballerina – that's what they are all about – self-expression.
  • Or the “DIY Tutu.” This tutu is the one you might just create at home, from a thrift store find, and we've had plenty of those this #tututuesday!

Ashington definitely made me proud! My personal highlight was an adorable group of kids, ages three to five, dressed as little swans. I don't think they knew it was Tutu Tuesday, but hey, who cares when you have a group of adorable ballerinas twirling about in pink? Oh my! They’re the future of tutus in this town! If only the internet had existed when I was little! My mum definitely would've dressed me in a ballerina outfit when I was their age! Even if there wasn't any social media for my mother to post pics, she was so delighted by those girls dancing!

But even beyond the beautiful tutus I spotted on Tutu Tuesday, there was something else that really caught my eye – and heart. It wasn’t just about the tutu, but how this little community embraced this special day with such joy and love. It was a beautiful example of how small towns can make the biggest impact, all through a bit of fashion magic and community spirit!

And so, Ashington, I salute you! Thank you for a #tututuesday to remember.

I may have only be blogging for about six months now but what started out as "just a little blog" has evolved into a true passion for fashion! I started because I've been into dancing since I was a little girl, and fashion always has been an intrinsic part of dancing! So the thought that these two can be combined - for this blog, my fashion journey and for your enjoyment - makes it all so worthwhile.

But you don't have to live in Ashington or in Northumberland, because my blog and #tututuesday are here for you! I encourage all my fellow ballerinas across the world to join in on this beautiful movement.

Because the power of tutus knows no geographical bounds - they stand as a universal symbol of hope, grace, and self-expression! And so, ladies, gents, everyone in between! I want to see your tutus – all of your tutus! – whether you're on a stage, on a sidewalk, in your home, or in your wildest dreams, let your tutu shine!

Let’s continue to make this trend grow. And, let’s all remember: no matter who we are or where we are, the magic of a tutu can always brighten up our day!

See you next Tutu Tuesday, lovelies!
