Tutu Tuesday in Spokane, Washington #tututuesday

Hey, Tutu-Lovers! Itā€™s your girl, Clara, checking in from the heart of Spokane, Washington, ready to get our twirls on. Iā€™m back with a Tutu Tuesday post, and this week, Iā€™m all about the classic tutu styles, the ones that made ballet history, the ones that never go out of style, and the ones that continue to inspire generations of ballerinas.

Now, Spokane may not be the first city you think of when you think of ballet. Itā€™s known for its majestic mountains and sprawling rivers, its friendly people and delicious huckleberry pies, and its strong sense of community, but letā€™s be realā€”ballet is a force to be reckoned with here in the Inland Northwest! The artistry, the technique, the commitment, and the sheer passion for dance run deep in this town. Plus, you know I canā€™t forget those awe-inspiring mountain backdrops during our rehearsals, right? Talk about dramatic scenery for a dancer's heart! Anyway, Iā€™m going to talk about my favorite tutu styles, so let's get started, shall we?

  • The Romantic Tutu - Picture yourself twirling on a misty, moonlit stage. Thatā€™s the vibe you get with the Romantic tutu. Delicate, ethereal, and effortlessly graceful, this tutuā€™s all about highlighting the dancer's fluidity and emotion. They often have several layers of tulle, adding to that air of whimsy. Oh, and it can have little variations like different-colored ribbons or delicate trims. If you're going for the classic romantic fairytale look, this is your best bet!
  • The Classical Tutu - Let's face it: the Classical tutu is the quintessential ballet tutu. It's a powerful statement piece! It has this timeless elegance with that super-structured look and often a pointed or bell shape. It features many layers of stiff tulle that give that beautiful shape. Imagine a symmetrical triangle with tulle that radiates out ā€“ this is what I love most about the classic tutu. I mean, when you're thinking of sugar plums and leaping ballerinas, you think of this timeless, gorgeous style!
  • The Contemporary Tutu - Now, we canā€™t leave out contemporary tutus. Itā€™s all about bringing new dimensions to ballet fashion. And guess what? The sky's the limit with these bad boys. They go beyond the typical, traditional tutu and experiment with shapes, colors, and textures. These styles incorporate more flowy layers, softer fabric choices like chiffon and silk, and they can come in unique asymmetrical or free-flowing designs that truly challenge what we perceive a ā€œballet tutuā€ to be.
  • The Practice Tutu - Remember the early mornings at the barre and all those years of rigorous training? You know what's made the process a whole lot more exciting and comfortable? Yes! Our trusty practice tutus. Those were the comfy staples for countless ballet hours, and sometimes even outside of rehearsals. Now, I think theyā€™re totally chic in their own way! We donā€™t need those extravagant and sometimes very itchy stiff tutus all the time, especially when practicing. I know you dancers out there know what Iā€™m talking about!

Well, tutu lovers, it's a wrap for our Tutu Tuesday from the sunny streets of Spokane! These tutus are like little wearable time machines, transporting us to the rich history and captivating energy of ballet in the USA! But before you go, give me a follow for more dance adventures, and donā€™t forget to tag #tututuesday and show me your ballet moves and tutu love!
