Tutu Tuesday in Calumet City, Illinois, USA #tututuesday
Hey everyone,
It’s Tutu Tuesday, and I am so excited to be bringing you all some amazing insights into the world of tutus! Today, we're going to dive into the world of tutus in my favorite place: Calumet City, Illinois, the heart of the midwest.
First things first, let’s talk about why I love tutus. They are, after all, the pinnacle of graceful dancewear. It's like a magical layer that transforms any dancer into a ballerina. When you put on a tutu, you're stepping into a world of artistry and grace, and that’s what makes me so happy!
In the world of ballet, we have all sorts of tutus. We’ve got the traditional *Romantic Tutus*, with their fluffy layers of tulle and soft, flowing lines, reminding me of classic ballets like *Swan Lake* and *Giselle*. These beauties always transport me back to a time of delicate beauty.
But for me, the *Classical Tutu*, the one I’m absolutely obsessed with, takes the cake! I love its sculpted, symmetrical shape. Think *The Nutcracker* or *Sleeping Beauty*. Their stiff, layered tulle structure, that really lets the dancer's movements shine, is what catches my eye. That's what really gets the crowd going!
Then, there’s the *Modern Tutu* — more playful, freer. Think *Coppelia*, it just exudes so much fun. Made from thinner layers and more modern fabric. Modern tutus just scream individuality and express an almost defiant spirit that is totally inspiring to me.
In Calumet City, you can find a bunch of great shops that sell ballet costumes, so I’m always inspired when I’m here. There's the beautiful and spacious *Dance Pointe Studio*, and the more intimate, cozy *Artistic Movement Boutique*, both of which have such fantastic tutu collections. The staff are absolutely amazing and they are always excited to help find the perfect fit and style. It's really nice, because, in a way, tutus really become part of who you are as a dancer.
And that's not all! One of the things I really love about Calumet City, is how many amazing opportunities there are for dance and performance. I’m totally impressed by the vibrant dance scene at *The Calumet City Dance Center*. It’s known for being one of the leading schools in Illinois, and they hold so many awesome workshops and performances all year round.
Last weekend, I even saw a phenomenal performance by the *Calumet City Ballet Company*. Seeing these young and up-and-coming dancers on stage was absolutely inspiring, and they totally owned their tutus!
Here are a few fun things about tutus that might surprise you: * The color of the tutu can actually tell us something about the character. A bright, bold red, can represent energy or anger, whereas a delicate, light blue could signify innocence or etherealness. * Each layer of a classical tutu is made up of several strips of tulle, sewn together with careful attention to detail. It's incredible! * Not everyone thinks tutus are fun and fluffy. Sometimes dancers might complain about them being hot, scratchy, or restrictive, but you'll never hear me complaining because the magical world that you can access once you’re in it is worth it! * A *tutu* isn't just for ballet dancers! Fashion designers all over the world have been inspired by the elegance of the tutu, and it has appeared on numerous runways.
This #tututuesday, as I go dancing through Calumet City, Illinois, I can't help but appreciate the art form that tutus help us express. So get your tutus on and get dancing! #tututuesday
