Tutu Tuesday in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Hey dance fam! It's your girl, Amelia, back with another #tututuesday! I’m hitting the streets of Albuquerque today, New Mexico, to see what kind of fashion magic this desert city is conjuring up. 💅🏼

Now, Albuquerque might be known for its hot air balloons and green chile, but I’m here to show you that there’s some serious fashion fire in this town! 💥 Let's be honest, there are very few things more magical than a tutu. The frothy layers, the twirling, the ability to instantly feel like a ballerina even if your pirouette is more like a tumble. 💕 But honestly, let’s take this Tuesday’s style to the next level.

From classic romantic tutu’s, to punk rock chic tutus – it’s all happening in the heart of New Mexico!

Speaking of Albuquerque, this city is all about contrasts: the beautiful sandstone mountains meet the modern art scene, the traditional southwest architecture stands beside vibrant street art, and of course, you can always find some sizzling hot green chile!

So, let’s talk tutus. Today we are focusing on three trends, the first is the tutu of course. A staple in the fashion world with infinite design potential – and it has definitely hit the streets of Albuquerque.

Here’s my Albuquerque #tututuesday style advice for wearing a tutu to impress:

  • Go all out, tulle, or go home! Look for a tutu that's eye-catching, be it a fluffy romantic tulle that dances with every step, or one that has been modernized with a statement of texture or a powerful color palette. It can’t be a dainty ballet tutu either! More voluminous and more colorful are better. Don’t shy away from this.
  • Don't be afraid to be bold with the colors or the cut. A classic, traditional ballet tutu is definitely beautiful, but Albuquerque is definitely calling for an unexpected edge! A bright neon tutu in shocking pink paired with simple, sophisticated accessories. But always with an eye to keep it elegant!
  • Keep your hair and makeup simple. A Tutu already steals the show. So don't compete! For a pop of extra magic, wear some fun statement earrings or bold lips to make a truly individual statement. And try to work your favorite nail color!
  • Be a dancer. When you step out, you want to exude confidence, wear your tutu like you own the dance floor. With this kind of fashion, attitude goes a long way! Even if you’re not sure how to carry off the dance moves (my first day on the ballet floor at five was disastrous, don’t tell the choreographer! 😂 ) you want to appear sure of yourself.

If you don't want to go full tutu, a modern fashion interpretation is always a perfect way to start your journey! The ballet aesthetic is taking over – not just in the big ballet studios of New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, but on the street!

For the more adventurous souls, here’s my suggestion to incorporate the ballet aesthetic for a little dose of ballet elegance without a tutu:

  • The Ballet Slip. A smooth silk, bias-cut slip with a hint of shimmer is very elegant. It works wonderfully over jeans or a midi skirt, and it adds an instant hint of "ballerina" that's super chic.
  • A Leotard. You might be thinking, a leotard? That’s an item for a dance class! However, think outside the box, modern designs for the leotard exist in amazing fabrics and silhouettes. Plus it goes from the dance studio to lunch in style. Bonus points if the leotard comes in velvet or has cool cutouts. Remember you are the star in the "ballerina aesthetic".
  • Ballet-inspired Shoes A pointed-toe flat in soft leather or satin - so glamorous and a sophisticated look with every outfit. Think delicate and feminine. It looks like ballet, and like it could have stepped right off the dance floor - but with comfort, not to mention amazing stylish legs!

Tutus, slips, leotards, even the pointy flats! These pieces add that extra “je ne sais quoi" to any outfit, giving it a touch of drama and magic.

So Albuquerque, don’t just stick with your “traditional” city look, get ready to #tututuesday, even in the most unexpected places!

Remember, ballet and fashion – and even Albuquerque – are about finding your own style. Have fun with it, express yourself, and get ready for some tutu magic. 👠💫
