Tutu Tuesday in Westhoughton

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means! #tututuesday, babes! It's my favourite day of the week, where I get to don my favourite dancewear, take some pics, and celebrate all things ballet!

And today, I decided to head over to Westhoughton for a special Tutu Tuesday outing. Let me tell you, this little town has a hidden gem – a lovely ballet studio right in the heart of town. I can’t believe I haven’t discovered it before!

I absolutely love exploring new places and finding hidden gems, and it definitely felt like discovering a new world, especially after being in the dance studio all week!

Today I was feeling extra sassy so I chose a vintage-style tutu, with all those layers of soft tulle that you just can’t help but love. Plus, you know it always adds a touch of vintage glamour. The bodice was just a classic, simple black with a scoop neck, perfectly balanced with the beautiful flow of the skirt. You can’t beat a timeless classic in my opinion! I paired it with my black ballet shoes and went for a bit of a bolder, theatrical look. I definitely embraced my inner prima ballerina for the day!

Honestly, I was having so much fun I couldn't stop twirling! The sheer volume of the tulle as I spun, almost like an explosion of ballet perfection, gave off such joyful energy, and felt like a perfect metaphor for what I felt – full of excitement!

Now, before I share more about this ballet haven I found, let’s have a little talk about these timeless tutu styles!

  • The Romantic tutu: The soft, ethereal skirt is what everyone dreams of. Its layered tulle and its signature longer, wider skirt, giving it that magical ballerina look is a perfect choice for those grand ballet numbers. This one's totally fitting for that romantic, flowing dance.
  • The Classical tutu: Ah, the iconic, shorter-style tutu – perfectly suited for faster paced numbers and those quick, graceful steps we all admire. If you are channeling your inner Tchaikovsky character, it’s hard to go wrong with a classical tutu. This style's a dancer's go-to – a true ballerina classic, and if it's good enough for the professionals, then it’s good enough for you too!
  • The Contemporary tutu: If you love more modern ballet styles, this is for you! Modern dancers prefer a much shorter, more simplified silhouette - a classic, clean cut look. Contemporary dance gives dancers the space to tell stories through body movements and the simplicity of this tutu allows the dancers movements to really stand out, without detracting from the dance piece.

But I’ll keep my ballet ramblings to a minimum, I don't want to overwhelm you! So let's get back to Westhoughton, shall we? As I stepped into the dance studio, the energy of the place just engulfed me – like all good studios should! I met an inspiring dance teacher, Lisa, who was really just an incredible ray of sunshine and was totally into inspiring the love of dance in every student, no matter what their level. This is a real gem, a safe haven where everyone feels accepted, appreciated, and free to be themselves.

And even though my dancing days might be mostly reserved for rehearsals at the moment, there is something truly special about sharing this love of dance with a community and supporting those taking their first steps into the wonderful world of ballet. So for the #tututuesday spirit, Lisa offered me a chance to take a spot in her ballet class - talk about a spontaneous, unforgettable experience!

I definitely felt those muscles burn as I tried my hardest to remember the routines, but it was so worth it to experience the love of dance again! There’s a real sense of connection, both with your fellow dancers, and the feeling you get as you gracefully glide through a sequence, all those years of practice finally paying off. I definitely need to keep my ballet skills topped up as a ballerina is never truly retired, right? You’ve always got those muscles memories and the dedication you pour into perfecting those pirouettes and arabesques never really goes away. So to the aspiring ballerinas in Westhoughton who need a little reminder to practice – never give up! It's an exciting journey and you never know, your passion for dance could just lead you to amazing new experiences, like it did for me on this very special Tutu Tuesday.

But now that I'm reminiscing, I guess that’s about it for my Tutu Tuesday in Westhoughton - what a treat this studio was, right? To be able to embrace my ballet side, explore this hidden gem of a place, and to discover how to really support the joy of dance with a little tutu magic - is what truly makes Tutu Tuesday one of the best days of the week. You definitely won't find me missing this day for anything, and definitely not for a chance to explore more amazing dance places. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a little bit of ballet choreography practice to get to! Keep on twirling my fellow ballet babes! And definitely follow me to find out about all my dance-tastic adventures.
