Tutu Tuesday in Croydon: A whirlwind of tulle and twirls

Well, darlings, it’s that time again – Tutu Tuesday in Croydon! This month, the dance community here has truly outdone themselves, embracing this unique trend with more gusto and grace than ever. Let’s dive straight into the tutu-tastic action.

First stop, the iconic Croydon Clocktower, a sight to behold. There was a troupe of dancers, seemingly from a ballet school (we’ll be adding that to our to-do list for a sneak peek!) who captivated everyone with their precision, the flow of their tutus perfectly matching their choreography. Their tutus were classically elegant, all white, with tiers of stiff, precisely-shaped layers – the kind of tutu that always screams "ballerina," but in the best way, of course. You’ve got to admire their dedication. Who knows, one day they could be at the Royal Opera House, tutus and all.

But the joy of #tututuesday isn’t all about professional performances; it’s a celebration of dancing in all its forms. Right in the middle of Croydon, I spied a group of children with those sweet, dreamy tutus in pale pastels. These little twirlers were rocking the shorter tutus, with ruffled, layered edges that almost look like mini-skirts, so adorable! Their mums seemed just as thrilled to be there as their daughters – clearly, tutu love runs deep in Croydon!

No #tututuesday would be complete without the unexpected and utterly delightful, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Imagine my delight when I encountered a local band rocking out with tutus as part of their ensemble! Now, it’s one thing for a ballet dancer to be sporting a tutu, but these guys? Full-on rocking out, microphones in one hand and a tulle skirt swishing in the other! I’ve never seen so much enthusiasm for #tututuesday – it was utterly unconventional, yet brilliantly stylish.

What sets #tututuesday in Croydon apart, you might ask? It’s a sense of community. Here in Croydon, people really seem to own their individual style. As much as I adored the structured tutus, there was this awesome guy with a bright pink tutu, probably hand-stitched by himself – a total rockstar vibe – it's that kind of attitude that makes this event unique and, frankly, glorious! It’s the day where anything goes, the sky is the limit, and frankly, it's as inspiring as it is just plain FUN.

There’s an air of shared love for dance and fashion. Forget all the trends and pressures – here in Croydon, we’re all about celebrating creativity. So many unique tutus out there. Even in Croydon! Who needs a designer gown when you can create something uniquely yours from yards and yards of tulle?!

So, here’s my message to you all, especially Croydon locals: Embrace #tututuesday, wherever you are! Unleash your inner ballerina, whether it’s a vintage tutu from a charity shop or a creation stitched with love at home. This day belongs to all of us. Let’s paint the streets with a whirlwind of tulle, feathers and just plain fun.

My advice: Next time you’re in Croydon on a Tuesday, do yourself a favor and ditch your trousers – embrace #tututuesday and make your own story. Maybe you’ll see me twirling right there with you! Until next time, dance on, darlings. #tututuesday
