Tutu Tuesday in Modesto, California, USA Hey everyone, and happy #TutuTuesday! It's finally Tuesday, and you know what that means—time to break out the tulle and twirl! Okay, maybe not *everyone* breaks out the tulle on Tuesdays, but it definitely feels like a tutu kinda day for me, and I think that spirit should spread. We all deserve a little bit of ballet in our lives. Maybe you won't wear a full tutu, but maybe you rock some pink lipstick, a ballet bun, or just a little ballet-inspired elegance! This Tuesday, I'm getting all nostalgic. You guys know how much I love #TutuTuesday here in Modesto, CA—but it all started with ballet in New York City, at the prestigious School of American Ballet, which gave me my first true ballet education. Ballet is so ingrained in American culture, and I wouldn't be who I am without it! That’s where my first love affair with the tutu happened—watching those elegant swans from Swan Lake glide through the stage at Lincoln Center, their delicate tutus billowing around them! It was so magical, so breathtaking, and the most important lesson I learned there is: there’s no better way to express your inner ballerina than through the power of the tutu! When I think back on my time at SAB, it’s not just about the technical aspects, or even the hard work! I see myself as a little girl, wide-eyed, twirling in a beautiful tulle skirt. It's not about perfection or even the flawless execution, but a joy that is unadulterated. Just that beautiful feeling of dancing. And, honestly, who doesn't love a twirl? The good news is: tutus don’t just have to be reserved for professional dancers anymore! The whole world has embraced the tutu as a fashion statement. Tutus can be classy or casual. They can be a playful addition to your outfit, a statement of femininity, or even just a way to channel your inner dancer. That's why #TutuTuesday isn’t just about tutus in the ballet world! It's a chance to see what the tutus of your own life can look like, from everyday fashion to the everyday grace of a well-lived life! In fact, when we talk about tutus, we aren't really talking about tutus, right? They have so many variations! Some people think a tutu is only for the dancers—a single-layered, wispy skirt that’s soft, dreamy, and perfect for romantic scenes. But did you know that they also make long tutus, tutus with sequins, tutus with flowers, and so many variations? They've got a style for everyone. Just take a look on my Instagram: I like to keep the looks diverse! I’m loving this new look from Modesto Ballet Academy: I call it the "Romantic Ballerina" style. It's all about soft pastel colors, flowy fabric, and just a touch of sparkle—a perfect way to embody that delicate ballet aesthetic while adding a touch of color. Don’t be scared to let your imagination run wild with the tutu styles. Whether it’s the dramatic Romantic Ballerina, the playful short tutus I call the "Modern Tutu," the "Grecian Tutu" style which leans more toward classical artistry and simplicity, or the dazzling, multi-layered "Empire Tutu"—each of them takes me back to that first taste of freedom and artistic expression! Speaking of expression, I've found so many great ways to make the #TutuTuesday dream come true. Remember—it’s all about what you can do to unleash that inner ballerina. * You could dress in your own ballerina-inspired outfit! Throw on your favorite flowy dress, some ballet flats, or even just a ballerina bun with your hair! A tutu-inspired dress can give a soft and graceful feel. A bit of sparkly jewelry, or a beautiful head-piece with delicate flowers or pearls… it's all up to your imagination! And if you do choose to embrace the tulle, there are so many different options! There are soft tutus that go from cute and girly to graceful and dreamy. * Share your favorite ballet memories with us! Did you attend your first performance as a child, or perhaps danced in your first recital at the Modesto Civic Center? It was definitely a powerful experience, I'm sure, that we can all cherish. * And lastly, you could just post a photo of a tutu you admire, or even design your own dream tutu. It’s all about finding the creative spark within. That’s why I’m so thrilled that we started this trend! From the elegant to the playful, it’s amazing to see so many people across the globe participating in this exciting movement! Don't forget to tag #TutuTuesday and let’s celebrate our shared love for ballet and all things twirly! Have a beautiful week!
