Rochester Tutu Tuesday: Whirlwind of Romance and Pointe Shoes

Well, darling, it's another glorious Tuesday in Rochester and guess what? It's Tutu Tuesday! Now, you might be thinking, "Tutu Tuesday? What's that all about, dear?" And, my lovely, that's the question I get asked every single Tuesday. I have to admit, when I started it all, back in my ballerina days (oh those days, they're just a blur of tutus and tights!), it was all about channeling that inner prima ballerina and feeling like I was stepping on stage. And believe me, every single day, even when I'm stuck behind a computer screen, the feeling's the same - a little sprinkle of magic, a dash of ballerina bliss.

But Tutu Tuesday has become so much more than a personal whim. It's grown into a Rochester phenomenon, with women and men alike embracing the joy of expressing themselves in a world of tulle and tiers. From the classic Romantic tutu, with its billowing layers of chiffon and an air of ethereal grace, to the dramatic and contemporary tutus, often fashioned with sharp lines and daringly revealing details, there's a tutu style for every mood and every outfit. I mean, just picture it, darlings! That perfect black slip dress? Perfect with a tutu! That tweed jacket with that killer skirt? Perfect with a tutu! Seriously, a tutu can transform any outfit from "Meh!" to "Divine!"

Thereā€™s also something utterly empowering about embracing Tutu Tuesday, a little reminder that it's okay to embrace your playful side. The day gives you a chance to slip into something playful, even if you don't end up hitting the stage, or even if your ballet days are far behind you. And the fun isn't just for the women! A fellow fashion-loving gentleman at the cafe told me that he plans his outfits around the Tutu Tuesday themes and has even incorporated the idea of wearing tulle into his style, creating a kind of 'gentleman's tutu' look using the fabric and pattern elements.

Speaking of "gentleman's tutus" it was absolutely thrilling to see so many lovely people rock a tutu on Tutu Tuesday at the Rochester Theatre yesterday. Itā€™s a true testament to this town, Rochester! The enthusiasm, the energy and the sheer creativity that we bring to Tutu Tuesday is truly something special! Itā€™s more than just a day; it's a shared expression of creativity.

And while you might think I'm biased, because I am a former professional dancer, it's impossible not to be amazed by the level of imagination, fashion-forward thinking, and just plain old FUN people are having on Tutu Tuesday! So what does it take to be a part of the #TutuTuesday Rochester revolution? Not a lot, darling. Simply put on your favorite tutu. But let's make it even more fun:

Here are some ideas to kick start your Tutu Tuesday, my lovely Rochester fashionistas:
  • Pick a theme. I recently went for the ā€˜Romantic Balletā€™ look, a perfect example of an airy Romantic tutu. It brought a breath of whimsical magic to the office. But go bold, try "Modern Ballet" for a minimalist approach with crisp tulle or ā€œNeon Tulleā€ for something bright and playful!
  • Let your hair down (or style it high!) Remember, there are no rules, only opportunities for creative fun on Tutu Tuesday.
  • Strut your stuff, whether thatā€™s taking a few pirouettes, a little promenade or simply a confident stroll.
  • Have fun with accessories. If your tutu's the centre of attention, just add a touch of magic to your look with a delicate ballet slipper necklace or a statement earring - or go crazy! What's Tutu Tuesday for if not a bit of daring!
  • Document your Tutu Tuesday looks. Don't forget to tag #TutuTuesday and #Rochester in all of your snaps - let the whole world see what an incredible bunch we are here!

So, darlings, grab your favourite tutu (if you don't have one yet, now is the time to invest!) and join me in Rochester this Tuesday! There's a reason why it's a thing, and it's definitely not just about twirling. It's about the thrill of playful expression, the shared sense of joy, the connection between us all - in all our glorious tutu-fied glory!

See you on the streets, dear ones. #tututuesday
