Tutu Tuesday in Brockton, Massachusetts: A Celebration of Ballet and Style

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Anya, back with another installment of Tutu Tuesday. This week, I'm taking you to the charming city of Brockton, Massachusetts, where the ballet scene is starting to heat up – and I'm here to report on the hottest tutus gracing the stage.

This is the second week of Tutu Tuesday, a new initiative launched by the Brockton Ballet Association to celebrate the beautiful world of dance and empower ballet lovers everywhere. They're encouraging everyone in the Brockton area, and beyond, to wear tutus for one day each week – not just ballerinas. And it’s making waves!

Every Tuesday in Brockton is a day to flaunt your tutu-ness! Whether you're rocking a classic Romantic tutu, like the kind seen in “Swan Lake,” a dramatic Empire tutu with its billowing layers, a playful, sassy, and practical practice tutu (my go-to for the studio!), or even a funky contemporary style tutu (perfect for that modern, interpretive dance move!), it's a time to embrace your inner ballerina.

Brockton has always been a community with a vibrant artistic spirit. However, when I started the “Tutu Tuesday” initiative in my blog posts a few weeks ago, I was amazed at the response – not just the community engagement but also the number of aspiring ballet dancers and talented local artisans I discovered! It really opened my eyes to how many creative souls are living in Brockton, who weren't sure if their passion for the dance was "too much" for their small town, if that made sense.

My hope with Tutu Tuesday is that we bring back a touch of playful fun and light-hearted celebration into dance. So many aspiring dancers, particularly the little ones, have never witnessed their communities truly embracing dance. They often see only the competitive side, and while that’s good training, it can feel a bit grim for dancers, you know? So I’m hoping Tutu Tuesday becomes an event where dance feels inclusive, where it’s all about enjoyment. If Tutu Tuesday is the first thing a ballerina looks forward to during the week, I think we’ve done our job!

We're even seeing people go all out with their tutu styles, and I’m posting all their looks to my blog every Tuesday, making sure to credit each tutu maker. Last week we had a family photo where mom was sporting a stunning tulle tutu and her daughters were rocking the shorter "practice" styles, just perfect for playtime! Another photo featured the entire bakery staff of Brockton’s best cupcake store, and all of them had pink, cotton candy tulle tutus - it was delightful! These are exactly the kinds of heartwarming memories we’re trying to capture.

The Brockton Ballet Association is organizing a "Tutu Tuesday Parade" on June 23rd (can’t wait!) - a massive celebration of all things tutu! They’ll be holding classes on different ballet styles in the afternoon and we're all going to strut down Main Street in our finest tulle. The whole parade will have a vintage vibe with vintage tutus, feather boas, and maybe even some glitter! Who knows, maybe the Brockton High School Marching Band will play something classic!

And if you can’t be there on that day, the Brockton Ballet Association is hosting "Tutu Tuesday Workshops" throughout the week, covering different dance styles, tutu crafting, and, what we all love – "the business of ballet"! Whether you’re interested in becoming a dancer or want to learn how to style a tutu perfectly, these workshops are for you! I’m really looking forward to attending. I may even share some tips I’ve learned in the dance industry through the years!

As I close this entry, let me tell you that "Tutu Tuesday" is not just a day of fancy dancing or silly pictures. It's a day to feel good, to be yourself, and to celebrate our love for this expressive art form. Whether you’re in the ballet studio or out on the streets, feel free to rock your tutu. Because here in Brockton, every Tuesday is for all of us - it's #Tututuesday!

Join me, spread the joy, and make your inner ballerina shine. And for those of you outside Brockton, join me on social media! What are you going to be wearing for your #Tututuesday? Let me know in the comments! I love to see your looks!
