Tutu Tuesday in Jersey City, New Jersey: A Celebration of All Things Tutu! #tututuesday
Hey everyone! It’s your girl, Chloe, back with another post about all things dance and fashion. As you know, Tuesday is my favorite day of the week, and that's because it’s #TutuTuesday!
This week I’m going to talk about one of my favorite places to wear a tutu – Jersey City, New Jersey! Now, before you start picturing me pirouetting through the streets (though I kinda wish I could), let’s talk about the Jersey City vibe that screams tutu-ready!
Jersey City is all about art, culture, and community, and what’s more artistic and expressive than a tutu? I see it like this – it’s a city of contrasts, offering an edgy industrial backdrop that's totally up my alley! Just think, brick warehouses against a modern skyline - a cool juxtaposition for the romantic femininity of a tutu. The place is full of creatives who appreciate self-expression and dance, and what’s more self-expressive than wearing a tutu in public?
But, you guys, we're not talking about the standard ballerina tutu here. Think outside the box – think **modern**, **edgy** , **statement pieces**, Think **feathers**, **fringe**, **asymmetrical designs** … heck, even a tutu made out of denim would be amazing! My kind of style is all about blending the traditional with a more avant-garde vibe. This is the perfect place for that.
So, where do I love to wear my tutus in Jersey City?
- Liberty State Park: With stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline, this place is iconic. There’s nothing better than twirling in front of that beautiful backdrop. And who knows, you might even see a boat or two full of tourists cheering you on!
- The Grove Street PATH Station - Yes, you heard right! There are so many opportunities to make a fashion statement – the architecture alone is a work of art, and the colorful mosaics just make my tutu pop.
- The Jersey City waterfront: Just breathe in the fresh air, feel the wind in your hair, and enjoy the beauty of the waterfront. This spot just feels so whimsical and magical! Don't be afraid to bring out that **long tulle**!
- The art galleries of the Hamilton Park neighborhood: Art + tutus? Come on now! This neighborhood is full of creative energy and independent businesses, so I love walking around, trying out new places, and finding cool art inspiration for my next DIY tutu. Plus, think about all the unique pictures you could get! The textures in this area are phenomenal – just the perfect background for the romantic beauty of a tulle tutu!
- A concert at the Loew’s Jersey Theatre: Come on, who can resist a good performance? There’s something about dancing around while the lights change and the music takes over that feels just so fabulous.
- A casual coffee date at The Porto Rico Importing Co : It’s a coffee shop, yes! But Jersey City’s coffee scene is hip and the style scene’s even better. Plus, I can always talk someone into trying a new tea. If you’re thinking a casual look, that **simple cotton** or **layered tulle** is perfect.
Speaking of a great community, the dance community in Jersey City is phenomenal! From local ballet classes and studios to contemporary and modern dance companies, there's a place for every dancer! Jersey City has also become a melting pot for various styles and cultures that has opened the doors to other performance styles and dances that you just won't find anywhere else. The inclusivity in this place is unreal!
And it doesn’t stop there. The city itself supports so many fantastic festivals and events! Think:
- The Jersey City Film Festival: Where else are you gonna get a mix of modern, sophisticated filmmaking and ballerinas twirling through the streets?! Jersey City takes movie night to a whole new level, and so can your tutu.
- The Jersey City Jazz Festival: Talk about dancing with the city! The rhythmic and soulful sounds of jazz just make me wanna wear my tutu and get lost in the moment!
- The annual "Jersey City Day": It’s a community-driven event that’s bursting with creativity! Just picture a mix of family, local shops, live music… you can bet that I’m gonna wear a tutu that shows my love for Jersey City.
Don’t get me wrong, guys. It’s totally cool to wear your tutu anywhere and everywhere – in your living room, your backyard, a grocery store, whatever! But sometimes it’s just really fun to find a location that celebrates your individuality and sparks a sense of freedom! For me, that place is Jersey City.
