Tutu Tuesday in Livonia, Michigan #tututuesday

Hey, you guys! It’s your girl, Maddie, back with another Tutu Tuesday. As you know, Tuesdays are my absolute FAVORITE day of the week – well, maybe after Sunday Funday when I get to go for that post-show brunch, but Tuesdays are a close second. 😉 You see, Tuesdays are when I unleash my inner tutu-loving, twirling ballerina. I love ballet, I love tutus, and I especially love showing them off. Today's post is about celebrating all things tutu! Let's face it, we can all benefit from a little sparkle in our lives and I find there is no better way to do it than with a well-designed tutu.

Living in Livonia, Michigan has a ton of pluses. It’s near a lot of cool stuff. First, Detroit, Michigan has such amazing history when it comes to art and theatre. We’ve been known as the Motown capital forever, but Detroit also had its golden age of dance too, a lot of really important choreographers were born and raised in the area. I’m thinking about taking a trip over there soon, so you guys know that’ll probably be an Instagram post in the making.

Back to today's post. So I went on an online deep dive through tutu manufacturers, stores and a few smaller designers - you guys know I always love to support the little guy. Let’s be honest, tutus can be pretty pricey, so supporting the little guy makes me feel better when I buy a new tutu because you guys know I am not going to wear the same one twice. 😉

  • The Classic Tutu - I was totally digging on these traditional romantic tutus this week! Let's be honest, it's a must for any tutu-loving ballerinas out there. The classic tutu is a staple for a reason and when paired with some great tights, the traditional tutu makes the perfect outfit for an after-class treat! Let’s be real here though, you guys need the perfect tights and they don’t just have to be basic black, which they totally should have as your go-to, but don't be scared of adding some color to those tights! Think cranberry red, a forest green or a bold teal. I’ve even seen ballet dancers and choreographers wearing bright pink ones with the classic tutu. The options are endless. And don't forget the ribbon. This season has brought some amazing ribbons! Get one that really pops.
  • The Modern Tutu - There are so many really cool new designs of the tutu being created all the time. There’s so much experimenting going on in dance, even at the professional level and the experimentation seems to be spilling over into the tutu market too. The designers and stores online have been blowing up my feed lately with amazing takes on the classic tutu - using things like new, flexible fabrics and even the more experimental tutu creations. I found one recently from an Etsy store, where the designers added a metallic, silver lace and it totally looked like something you'd see at the New York City Ballet! A little sparkle never hurts right? There are some amazing, new-age tutus out there. The one I mentioned with the metallic silver lace comes in an amazing silver, blue or maroon too.
  • The Casual Tutu - The thing that makes me love the world of ballet, and what makes me excited about Tutuesday in Livonia, Michigan #tututuesday is how diverse it is. Sure, tutus can look formal and be quite expensive. That’s why I am really digging this trend toward more casual tutu wear. Let's get real, guys, you don't need to drop a ton of money to rock a great tutu! A bunch of stores have taken up the new trend in casual tutus with ones made of cotton or fabrics you could even throw in the washer - I have a pink one I wear to barre every week - so many places sell them you guys wouldn’t even believe it.

Well that's all for today's #tututuesday guys! I love having you along for the journey, don’t forget to send me pics of your tutus if you post to social! You guys know I’ll post my Tutu Tuesday outfit pics to my social media feed. Make sure you follow me at @MadeOnTheMove. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #tututuesday!
