Tutu Tuesday in Providence, Rhode Island Hey dance fam! It’s your girl, *insert blogger name here* bringing you the latest in dance fashion from right here in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. As you all know, #tututuesday is the one day of the week when you’re *supposed* to whip out your favorite tulle and spin. For you newbs, Tutu Tuesday is an unspoken rule in the ballet world (especially the online world) where everyone breaks out their prettiest tutus on Tuesday for their gram pics, and they use the hashtag #tututuesday! And Providence, as you know, has a long history of ballet — not just because our Ballet Rhode Island (formerly known as the Rhode Island Philharmonic Ballet) is a big deal — but because there’s something about this city that just screams elegance and *moves* you to spin, spin, spin, if you know what I mean… This week, I’m putting the spotlight on a local artisan: “Tutus by Tyler!” He's making waves in Providence and beyond! (You know how everyone is always buying “made in the USA”? That’s the vibe, and Tyler has a knack for turning recycled fabric into one-of-a-kind works of art.) Plus, he's so generous! He gives a portion of all his sales to the Providence Dance Center for low-income families and also the "Shoes For Souls" initiative! You guys should really check him out (links below.) This week's inspiration: First, I’m digging the *classic romantic style tutu* that’s still all the rage! These are usually the *big fluffy tutus* — the ones with lots of layers of tulle, and they’re kind of timeless, really! And when I say *romantic*, I mean there’s just something romantic and airy about a tutu! The only issue is it's kind of impractical, to be honest! You definitely need a good stage partner if you plan on turning in that one. Next, let’s get real… those *long, flowing tutus* are making a serious comeback in Providence (think of them as the new, modern princess dresses!) Maybe it’s all the buzz about the new Swan Lake? They are always on point! I think they’re especially perfect for dancers who like to explore modern dance or fusion — like a cross between ballet and other types of dance. I think it’s definitely time to give that long tutu a shot if you haven’t tried one yet, for the next *Tutu Tuesday* at least. So, we have a few more things to talk about! * The Short tutu: Okay, so this is super-versatile because you can totally wear it to the studio, a recital, or maybe a dance class. Just remember it's super practical (easy to move in and super light), and, it's got the modern flair everyone's going for. * The Tutus With Extra: (This is all about the embellishments!) Tyler's making this so on-trend right now, by attaching all these things to tutus - like lace, ribbons, beads, even feathers. You’re adding the whole look — the “oh my goodness!” reaction. I even heard from someone who tried it for their *dance class recitals* in Providence. I'm not even kidding. You're going to want to start prepping your #tututuesday now, because let's face it - a tutu can really step up your entire dance game! Plus, you might just inspire some *new dance moms and dads* out there in Providence! Maybe there's an aspiring ballerine in the house and she just needs that one good *push* — just a little encouragement from her *new bestie*, that’s you, the dance world expert in your community! And for this to all work out you have to get the right tutus - that's why, this week, I'm also going to be posting the "Tyler's Tutus" tutorial so you guys can learn all the things I’ve shared about those romantic, classic, and other crazy-awesome tutu looks. And be sure to stay tuned because my friend Emily is coming on the blog soon to talk about everything *dance-related* in Providence - she has so much cool stuff going on that I'm not even ready for it!
