Tutu Tuesday in Wellington: A Whirlwind of Feathers and Frills ## **#tututuesday** Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-obsessed blogger, back with another post dedicated to the glorious garment that is the tutu. And oh my, Wellington has been the epicentre of tutu-tastic adventures this week. As you know, every Tuesday is #tututuesday in my world. It's a day for celebrating the tutu in all its forms - from the classic, romantic tutu, with its layers of tulle swirling around the legs, to the modern, edgy tutu, with its sharp lines and daring silhouettes. This week, however, was extra special, as Wellington seemed to be channeling its inner ballerina. **Tutu Trends in Wellington** I couldn't help but notice a tutu explosion on the streets of Wellington this week. From the vibrant pink tutus worn by the Little Ballet Academy dancers, looking adorable as they pirouetted on the pavement outside their dance studio, to the vintage, blush-toned tulle skirt worn by a group of girls at the cafe I frequent, it seemed like every corner I turned brought a new tutu sighting. I'm not surprised, really. The tutu has been making a comeback for a few years now, and this trend shows no sign of slowing down. This could be partly down to the recent influx of ballet-themed movies and TV shows that have sparked a renewed interest in the dance form, bringing with them a whole lot of tulle-induced excitement. It could also be that we're all just longing for a little bit of fairytale magic in our everyday lives. But back to the trends we saw in Wellington this week. The most common tutu styles on display were the following: * **The Romantic Tutu:** This classic style, made up of several layers of soft tulle, was a firm favourite among the younger ballet enthusiasts, giving off a dreamy, fairy-like vibe. * **The Modern Tutu:** With a sharper, more contemporary feel, the modern tutu, with its short, structured silhouette, is favoured by dancers seeking a bold statement. These tutus were seen on older students at the dance studios and on some of the more adventurous shoppers. * **The Tutu Skirt:** This fun and versatile option, made with a single layer of tulle, allows for easy styling and movement, which made it popular among the group of girls at the cafe who had each interpreted the look with their own style. I loved how it added a touch of whimsical femininity to their otherwise everyday outfits. **Tutu-fying Wellington** But it wasn't just the street fashion that captured my tutu-obsessed eye. The local restaurants and shops were getting in on the action too! The cafe around the corner even served its latte art with swirling, ballerina-inspired designs, and the bookstore had a "Read for Tutu Much" display featuring ballet-themed books. **My Top Three Tutu Moments** It would be an injustice to call this a mere "post" about tutus when it was such a magical week in Wellington! So, here are my three favourite #tututuesday moments: * **The Tutu Flash Mob:** Walking down the street, I was totally caught off guard by a flash mob of young dancers bursting into an impressive choreographed routine! Their coordinated pirouettes and jumps, set to an upbeat soundtrack, were totally mesmerising. * **The Tutu Tea Party:** The Ballet School held a Tutu Tea Party to celebrate the beginning of the new term, with a delicious spread of finger sandwiches, scones, and clotted cream, all beautifully served on delicate teacups and saucers. They even had a special tutu-themed cocktail, a delicate concoction of gin, elderflower liqueur, and raspberry. It was pure perfection! * **The Tutu Exhibition:** And then, of course, there was the incredible "Tutu: A Celebration of Form and Movement" exhibition at the city museum. This display showcased a fascinating collection of tutus from various eras and styles. From the dramatic feathered tutus of the romantic period to the minimalist creations of the 21st century, this exhibit truly highlighted the versatility and elegance of this iconic garment. A Day Dedicated to the Tutu Itโ€™s safe to say that Wellington embraced the joy and magic of the tutu wholeheartedly this week. Seeing so many people embracing their inner ballerina was absolutely inspiring. And, of course, I joined the celebration, sporting a pale pink, single-layered tutu skirt myself! A day dedicated to the tutu? I'd say #tututuesday in Wellington was a triumph! And Iโ€™m already counting down the days until the next one.
