Tutu Tuesday in Scarborough: A Whirlwind of Tutu-liciousness

It's Tutu Tuesday, and as a ballerina and blogger who lives and breathes dance, you know I couldn't let this day pass without a little sartorial celebration. And where better to celebrate than the seaside town of Scarborough, where the crisp sea air and the beautiful beaches create the perfect backdrop for twirling in a tutu?

I've always been a bit of a tutu enthusiast, let's be honest. They're just so darned versatile! You can wear them to the ballet, of course, but they also look absolutely smashing for a casual day out. And let's be real, who doesn't feel like a princess when they're wearing one?

So, what are the essential elements for a Tutu Tuesday ensemble? Let me break it down for you:

  • The Tutu Itself

This is, of course, the star of the show. Today, I opted for a classic, full-bodied, romantic tulle tutu in a vibrant pink hue. It's the perfect colour to brighten up a chilly day by the coast. But, let's not forget the myriad of styles!

  • The Romantic Tutu: Flowing layers of tulle create a cloud-like effect, perfect for twirling with abandon.
  • The Modern Tutu: More streamlined and contemporary, these often have less volume but a bold design and might feature panels or unique fabrics.
  • The Demi-Tutu: These classic, waist-length tutus fall between full and romantic, perfect for a look that's elegant but not over the top.
  • The Dance Tutu: Whether 'pointe shoes' are involved or not, these styles are ideal if you're a ballerina at heart, with details that channel a classic dance outfit.

Remember, there is a tutu for every style, taste, and occasion.

  • The Top

To balance the frilliness of a tutu, a simple, fitted top is key. I chose a classic black cami for a sleek and modern contrast to my pink tutu. I adore a fitted crop top too. Or, why not try a feminine lace camisole, a whimsical peasant top or even a cool oversized graphic tee, to play with contrasts.

  • The Shoes

I love a good ballet flat, but they're not practical on a windy beach! Thankfully, there are other stylish options that complement a tutu just as well. Ballet flats or classic pumps are great options and you can never go wrong with ankle boots or trainers to give your look a trendy edge.

  • Accessories

Accessories are where you can have fun and really express your individuality. A wide brimmed hat can be a chic way to add a touch of sophistication, while a simple scarf in a contrasting colour adds a touch of drama.

Scarborough itself added a perfect element of nautical charm. I walked the promenade, stopping to admire the Victorian architecture and the colourful boats in the harbour. A few children spotted my tutu and giggled in delight, and it reminded me of the pure joy that dancing, and tutus, bring. Every Tutu Tuesday, we should all find ways to bring a bit of whimsy into our day! #tututuesday
