Beckenham’s Tutu Tuesday: A Fashionable Flurry

Greetings, fellow fashionistas! It’s your girl, Amelia, back with another installment of my weekly fashion adventures. Today, we’re stepping into the vibrant streets of Beckenham, Kent, for a special #tututuesday celebration.

As you all know, I'm a ballet dancer, and if there's one thing that brings joy to my heart (besides perfecting my pirouette), it’s a perfectly chosen tutu. So imagine my excitement when I discovered a group of friends gathering for Tutu Tuesday in Beckenham. A dedicated group of local dancers, and not-so-dancers, have been taking over the town each week in a celebration of dance and fashion.

I've got to tell you, I was blown away by the diversity of tutus. It wasn’t all classical romanticism. This group definitely knows how to make a statement. We had tulle, chiffon, lace, even sequins.

Here's a rundown of the fabulous styles I saw:

  • The traditional tutu – you can't go wrong with the classic romantic design. But let’s be honest, this is the "easy option" when it comes to Tutu Tuesday. It’s what everyone thinks of when they hear the word. These were perfectly executed, elegant tutus, but it was the alternative takes that had everyone in awe.
  • The bold & modern – This tutu spoke to those of us who appreciate something a little more out of the box. Think contemporary ballet style. Minimal, sharp cuts, a dramatic black tulle, paired with sleek bodysuits or leotards. Some wore statement jewellery or a bold red lip. This look was powerful.
  • The tutu hybrid – Oh my, this was fun. Some dancers were creatively blurring the lines of traditional dancewear. They paired their tulle skirts with statement jeans or even with some chunky boots! Now that's how to rock a tutu on a Tuesday. And if that’s not a statement, I don't know what is. It was edgy, it was unexpected, and it was utterly delightful.

There were tutus of all colors. A dash of pastel, a splash of bold hues, with metallic tones and even a little bit of glitter for good measure. Some even came prepared with custom designs, adding personal flair with hand-painted designs.

You see, #Tututuesday in Beckenham is much more than just a gathering. It's a community embracing their passion, embracing individuality and celebrating the freedom of expression.

Whether you're a seasoned dancer, or just someone who appreciates a good tutu moment, there's something undeniably charming about seeing these women strut their stuff.

So if you ever find yourself in Beckenham on a Tuesday, do yourself a favour – embrace the spirit of #Tututuesday and see what this town's all about! You won’t be disappointed.

Until next time, stay stylish! And always remember, a good tutu can elevate even the most mundane Tuesday!
