Tutu Tuesday in Kettering: A Celebration of Twirling and Trendsetting

It’s Tuesday, which means one thing and one thing only: it’s Tutu Tuesday! As a ballet dancer, blogger, and self-proclaimed fashionista, I can’t resist the urge to share my love of the iconic tutu. And what better place to do it than in my hometown, Kettering? This bustling little market town in Northamptonshire might not be the first place you'd think of for a tutu revolution, but trust me, there’s a whole lot of twirling potential here.

Let's be honest, tutus are having a bit of a moment. They're popping up everywhere: on red carpets, at music festivals, and even on the catwalks. But for me, tutus will always be about ballet. They represent grace, artistry, and the sheer joy of movement. I mean, who doesn’t feel like a ballerina when they're twirling in a tutu?

So, how do you make Tutu Tuesday even more special? Why, by adding a touch of Kettering flair, of course!

The Tutu That Took Kettering By Storm

I've got to tell you about a local shop in Kettering called "Sew and So." Run by the wonderfully creative Ms. Beatrice Croft, it's a little treasure trove of vintage fabrics, sequins, and oh-so-many buttons. Last week, I found myself in Ms. Croft's charming shop, surrounded by yards and yards of shimmering fabrics, when I stumbled upon the most exquisite piece of material. A shimmering sapphire blue with hints of emerald green, it was like looking at a mini-explosion of a starry night. It felt destined for a tutu.

And destined it was. Over the weekend, I put my crafting skills to good use (with the help of a very patient seamstress friend) and voila! The most dazzling Tutu Tuesday masterpiece was born. Let's just say, I definitely turned a few heads at the Kettering Farmer's Market on Sunday. Everyone stopped to compliment me and ask about my unique tutu, with a few even expressing envy (a good thing in my book!).

The Kettering Tutu Style Guide

Speaking of tutu styles, here’s the low-down on the best looks for your Tutu Tuesday shenanigans. Because the beauty of a tutu is that it can be tailored to suit your personal style. It's a blank canvas waiting to be decorated with a dash of imagination.

  • The Classic Tutu: This one's the classic for a reason! Think tulle, a single layer, and maybe even a splash of pink or white. It's all about clean lines, ethereal grace, and a hint of old-school ballerina elegance.
  • The Romantic Tutu: Think dreamy fabrics like lace or chiffon. Perhaps a longer length that softly brushes the ground, adorned with floral details. Add some romantic accessories – like a delicate flower crown or a delicate pendant necklace.
  • The Dramatic Tutu: Ready to turn heads? Go for a dramatic, tiered tutu. More tulle, more ruffles, more layers! Play with bold colors and patterns and experiment with creative silhouettes. Remember: the sky’s the limit!
  • The Edgy Tutu: For those who want to ditch the ballerina look and embrace a bit of rebellion. Imagine a shorter tutu with a jagged edge. Pair it with a ripped T-shirt or a leather jacket, a splash of gothic make-up. It’s your call!

And don't forget to accessorise! From sparkly tights to whimsical hair clips, the options are endless.
