Urmston: Where Tutu Tuesday Meets Street Style

Okay, darlings, so you know how much I love a good #TutuTuesday. Itā€™s the perfect excuse to twirl, itā€™s the perfect excuse to feel fabulous, and itā€™s the perfect excuse to rock a tutuā€¦ in Urmston. Now, I know what youā€™re thinking, "Urmston, really? That's not exactly Paris, is it?" But hear me out, you guys. This charming town has a secret. And, no, it's not a hidden diamond mine (although, wouldn't that be amazing?). It's a spirit of community, a love for the quirky, and a growing passion for all things fashion. So yes, Tutu Tuesday can, and definitely should, thrive in Urmston!

So, picture this: sunshine streaming through the cobblestone streets of Urmston (well, a bit more drizzle than sunshine most days, but still!), a gentle breeze carrying the aroma of fresh coffee andā€¦ tutu fabric. Yes, thatā€™s right! Every Tuesday, the streets of Urmston are adorned with a ballet-inspired panache, courtesy of its stylish residents and yours truly, your #TutuTuesday guru. From the classic romantic tutu in soft tulle, billowing around the legs like a ballerina's dream, to the more daring, sassy-yet-stylish modern tutu with a burst of colour and playful layering ā€“ Urmston has it all.

Now, you may be wondering how Tutu Tuesday began, and how on earth did a ballet obsessed fashionista like me get roped into all this? Well, Iā€™ll confess, it was purely accidental! See, it all started a few weeks ago, I was grabbing a quick bite to eat at the charming Urmston cafe ā€œSweet Surrenderā€ (best lemon drizzle cake EVER!). My friend Amelia was in town and we were just getting ready to post photos on Instagram. That's when I saw her. A fellow dance lover. Dressed head-to-toe in pinkā€¦ with a tutu! It was just the most amazing and unexpected fashion choice, I felt like I was back in the Royal Opera House (but without the pretentiousness, mind you!). Amelia later confessed to me she felt nervous, that this small-town life needed more fun, and she decided to add a little tutu twist to it. We had a lovely chat, snapped a photo (I insisted on doing a classic arabesque!), and I went home brimming with an idea.

So the next Tuesday I rocked my own custom made tutu in powder blue (you canā€™t go wrong with blue, my dear!), paired with a black cropped sweater and high-heeled sandals and headed to the cafe again. Much to my delight, I wasn't the only one dressed up! This sweet lady with bright orange hair, who owns the adorable flower shop ā€œBloomersā€ (seriously the name is so fitting!) decided to join in. And the owner of "Sweet Surrender" looked equally stylish with a tutu fashioned into a fabulous headband. Itā€™s incredible how the mood is so infectiously positive - you can feel the creative energy in the air.

Now, here's the thing about Tutu Tuesday in Urmston: Itā€™s about a shared sense of fun and individuality, and breaking the monotony of the everyday routine. Think of it as a pop-up ballet performance in the most unlikely setting ā€“ in Urmston's heart and on its cobblestones! There are no rules, no strict expectations (well, maybe, one rule - twirl, twirl, twirl). People come dressed as their artistic spirits demand, rocking the classic tutu or reinterpreting the idea entirely, because Urmston loves a good ā€œown it" moment.

As I said before, Urmston has become the perfect backdrop for our tutu-themed shenanigans. Take, for instance, The Urmston Square - Itā€™s home to some pretty stunning historic buildings - imagine a backdrop of red bricks and arched windows adorned with ballerina figures in a perfect ballet pose - talk about a classic shot! Then we have "The Quays" with the river Mersey in the background. Iā€™ve managed to capture a photo of a dancer posing mid-pirouette, with the sun setting behind her, in front of a breathtaking water vistaā€¦ you see? Urmstonā€™s beauty is starting to unfold thanks to our own #Tututuesday movement.
