Tutu Tuesday in Strood: A Whirlwind of Tutu Tales

Alright, darlings, let's talk tulle! It's Tutu Tuesday, and guess what? I'm trading my pointe shoes for my favourite pair of brogues and hitting the streets of Strood for some serious tutu spotting! Because, let's be honest, a little tutu love never goes amiss, right?

So, what is it about tutus that has us all in a twirl? Well, for me, it's the pure unadulterated joy they evoke. There's something about their sheer ethereal beauty that instantly transports you to a world of ballet magic. And the way the tulle dances in the wind? Pure poetry! And the colour! From the classic white and blush pink to vibrant colours like emerald green and cobalt blue, there's a tutu out there to match every personality, even if it's just for one glorious day of the week.

But enough about my musings, let's dive into Strood! It's not exactly known for its fashion scene, which is what makes this Tutu Tuesday all the more exciting. A little fashion adventure, you could say, a chance to inject a dose of tutus into the unexpected!

My first stop? The local market! You never know what you'll find hidden amongst the fresh fruit and homemade cakes, and today was no exception! Tucked away amidst a display of brightly coloured knitted socks was a veritable tutu haven! I’m talking a veritable cornucopia of tutus: romantic Victorian style in delicate layers of silk and chiffon; the classically romantic princess tutu, fluffy, billowing layers of pale pink and silver; the quirky, modern "DIY" style - bold colour blocked tulle layered with funky metallic trims. The market vendor, bless her heart, informed me she had only recently begun to offer these delightful items, all hand-stitched and sourced from vintage fabrics.

With a little heart fluttering from the vintage tutus, I continued my tutu exploration. A bit of cheeky curiosity got the best of me so I popped into a shop called "The Sewing Nook," an oasis of bobbins, fabrics and sewing patterns. A silver-haired woman greeted me with a welcoming smile as I boldly questioned whether she would be up for making a special tutu for me! Thankfully she responded with delight. It turns out the shop not only boasts a vast selection of sewing materials but is also a hive of local sewing enthusiasts who swap techniques and collaborate on intricate projects - she said "sewing a bespoke tutu will be a breeze!" Now I just need to choose a design...

As the afternoon sun began to set, casting long shadows across Strood’s bustling streets, I found myself in a local vintage clothing store. Let’s just say the atmosphere here was practically electric! After politely introducing myself, and explaining my quest for all things tutu-related, the owner was incredibly happy to help. The shop was a sartorial treasure trove! A kaleidoscope of 70s fashions, glamorous 80s sequins, and plenty of items ready to be reborn as an exciting Tutu creation! After rummaging through piles of dresses, scarves, and fabric scraps, I finally emerged victorious with a collection of vibrant tulle panels that whispered tales of previous fashion eras.

Strood, I must say, you’ve exceeded my expectations. You may not have the dazzling lights and high-fashion boutiques of a bigger city, but you've certainly won me over with your genuine warmth, creative spirit, and a sprinkle of tutus, just like a sprinkle of magic! #TutuTuesday I'm ready to show Strood just how fabulous Tutu Tuesday can be!
