Tutu Tuesday in Kendal

Hey lovely dancers (and tutu enthusiasts!),

It’s your girl, [your blog name] , bringing you another #tututuesday installment. I know I always say it, but I am seriously living my best life in the ballet world. It’s tough, sure, but the moments where you connect with your body and the music... That’s where it’s all at.

Today, we're taking a little trip to the stunning Lake District to a town I’m absolutely obsessed with: Kendal, the jewel of Cumbria. You see, I had this amazing idea to host a #tututuesday photoshoot with some local ballerinas. And wouldn’t you know it? They were down for it, no questions asked!

Now, we've all been there. You want to wear that fabulous tutu, but you're staring at it thinking, 'Hmm, where on earth could I possibly wear this?' Well, here’s my theory. You wear a tutu anywhere you damn well please. And Kendal was a seriously *fantastic* place to let the tulle fly.

Before I spill the deets on the tutus themselves (because trust me, they were a real dream!), let's talk about Kendal's charm. The quaint, cobblestone streets are a bit like stepping into a classic period drama with that "chocolate box" vibe. But there’s more than meets the eye, trust me! It’s so wonderfully arty and there’s some seriously incredible craft shops tucked away. (Did someone say vintage knitting needles?) There's also a thriving music scene and the Kendal Calling music festival happens each year. Talk about good times!

Now, here’s what made Kendal’s #tututuesday a success:

  • Tutus Galore! Our local Kendal ballerinas - Charlotte and Freya - brought their A game when it came to tutus. We’ve got a couple of styles to show you:
  • First up: **A beautiful, traditional Romantic-style tutu** . This one featured a classic layered tulle design, making for the most graceful, fairytale look. Charlotte absolutely rocked this style with a soft lavender chiffon top and elegant flats that complemented the romantic silhouette.
  • The next tutu was an absolute stunner, too. It had a **contemporary feel with a classic tutu base** . Think modern styling meets timeless elegance! Freya went for an asymmetrical design which was seriously unique. It featured more layering, giving a powerful, modern look that's all the rage in the dance world.
  • And then we spilled out a few more tutus for our session and those, my dears, were simply exquisite.

Of course, I wasn't going to let the other local girls outshine me. (A bit of a competitive streak is vital for any aspiring dancer, am I right? ). I decided to take out a little surprise from my own personal tutu collection. This one, my dear readers, was something special - **a hand-sewn custom piece with the most ethereal lilac tulle and intricate beadwork**. My creative side came out here as I added some dainty floral accents for an extra romantic touch, giving it a kind of vintage, whimsical appeal. I opted to wear it with a white halter neck bodysuit which gave the whole look a classic, sophisticated vibe. Let’s just say Kendal became a pretty fabulous runway.

My absolute favorite moments from the #tututuesday Kendal session included:

  • The “let’s take a photo outside the historic Kendal Museum” moment. The architecture just made this whole location absolutely incredible for a few ballet poses. You see the grand stone building with all those little arches? Absolutely perfect for some ballet flair. It had a bit of that gothic grandeur with a real elegant touch! (Not to mention a sprinkle of Kendal charm!).
  • And that moment where Freya *gracefully* leaped over the quaint bridge over the River Kent, creating a vision of flowing fabric and sheer determination. It’s a moment I will *never* forget. The combination of the backdrop (those stone bridges and the gorgeous waterscape) with Freya's graceful movement made this scene an absolute standout for our shoot!
  • Another favorite? You guessed it! Our photo op at Kendal’s amazing market. The place had so much character, and I *totally* think a bit of ballet is missing from their stalls, but you’ll have to take my word for that!
  • We were fortunate enough to meet the *incredible* baker of The Little Cake Shop, nestled away on a side street. She actually offered to bring a gorgeous, gluten-free, lavender and rose cake - and did I mention that it looked just as gorgeous as the dancers themselves? Talk about a visual feast!

If you're ever visiting Kendal, here are a few tips:

  • Don't forget to visit Kendal Castle, with its amazing history dating back centuries! Take in the amazing views from the top - we even snuck in a little photoshoot on the way up to the ramparts. That moment on the castle lawn? It just took a bit of practice with the high winds to get our ballerinas looking truly perfect.
  • Get ready to indulge in Kendal Mint Cake, the official Kendal delicacy, created in the 19th Century and known for its refreshingly minty flavor! They have all sorts of variations from mint crumbles to chocolate covered, so find your favorite flavour and enjoy a *very* local snack.
  • If you’re up for a good dose of the Lake District, take a trip up to the nearby scenic beauty of Lake Windermere. If you’re an active traveller, rent a boat to spend the day cruising, explore the area on bike or hop aboard a scenic steam train - you’re in the Lake District! The region really lends itself to active adventures, plus you’ll soak in those glorious views. You’ll feel that crisp, fresh mountain air fill your lungs (and maybe your heart)!
  • Make time for the Brewery Arts Centre, where the Kendal Calling festival has taken place in recent years. With lots to see and do including exhibitions and film screenings - the venue's got plenty to keep your mind and eyes occupied - just make sure you have plenty of time for a brew and a few snacks. I hear The Brewery Arts Centre is perfect for post-tutu pampering. Who wouldn’t love some cake and coffee after a session in those tutus?

And you simply can’t miss out on The Kendal Mint Cake Shop, with its fascinating story and rich history. Step inside, take a look at the old-school production equipment, and, of course, buy yourself a little something tasty to enjoy along the way! This little shop is truly a must-see in Kendal!

From the dancing queens of Kendal to my incredible readers – a huge, giant, massive *thank you* for taking a peek at my #tututuesday Kendal escapade. This whole thing was definitely an experience to cherish! I know a tutu can be a serious investment so I highly suggest finding your favorite spots in Kendal and showing them some serious tulle! It's all about letting those twirling dreams come to life, one dance at a time. Catch you later my friends.

Yours truly,
