Tutu Tuesday in Droitwich
Well, hello darlings! It's your favourite ballerina blogger here, back with another fabulously frilly #tututuesday post! Today, I’m venturing out of the studio and into the real world, or at least the very real and lovely world of Droitwich! I’ve got my trusty tulle on and I'm ready to conquer the cobbled streets of this charming little town in Worcestershire.
For those who haven't had the pleasure of exploring Droitwich, it's a veritable gem! Nestled amidst stunning countryside, it's renowned for its brine springs (fancy that!) and a vibrant arts and crafts scene, making it the perfect setting for my Tutu Tuesday escapade! Now, let's dive right in.
To celebrate my first ever Droitwich tutu tour, I went for a classic romantic tutu! You know, the ones with the layered tulle, just begging to be swished. A delicate pink, because a girl can't be too subtle on #tututuesday. For accessories? A sparkly beret, just to add a bit of that Parisian je ne sais quoi and because honestly, can you ever have too much sparkle?
So, my first stop was a real must-do in Droitwich - the charming independent boutiques lining the historic High Street. The owner of "The Haberdashery", a haven of yarn and fabric loveliness, took one look at my tutu and just had to gift me a skein of the most delicate lace trim for a DIY tutu project! Seriously, the sweetest! I'm thinking of using it to create a simple yet stylish tulle overlay, the kind you see on professional ballet dancers for the perfect "off duty" look. Think delicate ruffles falling from the waist, with that elegant drape that just oozes effortless chic.
Speaking of professional ballet dancers, imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon a truly special shop. Not just any shop mind you - it was called 'The Dance Emporium'. Talk about finding a unicorn in the wild! The lovely owner told me that she started the store because her passion for dance led her to want to provide local dancers with a haven for their performance necessities. How incredible is that? It made me realise that even in the heart of England, people are sharing their love for the art of dance with each other.
I simply had to try on some of their tutus. I'm telling you, a little bit of "tutu therapy" never hurts, right? One was a whimsical confection - a multi-layered skirt of gossamer fabric with the most exquisite beading imaginable. It’s the kind of tutu you can get lost in, twirling away in your living room - completely magical! But, because it wasn't quite in keeping with the understated chic vibe I had planned, I settled for a slightly shorter, more playful one - with that glorious classic, frilled design. I just felt completely myself in it - confident, ready to take on Droitwich, even if I wasn't performing on stage!
Later that afternoon, I decided to treat myself to a high tea. Not just any tea, darling. We're talking finger sandwiches and delicious scones, and naturally, a tutu-perfect selection of sweet treats. The afternoon tea at 'The Swan' was a dream - it had to be included in my #tututuesday escapades, after all. There, I felt truly at home amidst the elegant décor and the most charming waitresses you can imagine. With every cup of tea, every little sandwich, and every mouthful of that glorious Victoria sponge, my inner princess felt more than a little bit satisfied! It was perfect.
The light started to dim, giving the cobbled streets an even more magical vibe. The entire experience made me realise how special a place Droitwich is, its charming old architecture providing the most stunning backdrop. To quote that old Shakespeare fellow, it was ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’ come to life! The locals seemed so friendly and welcoming, especially towards the little ballerina in her sparkly beret! It’s truly amazing how you can break down barriers, and bring a touch of light and laughter, simply by embracing your love for a piece of clothing.
The perfect end to my Tutu Tuesday was an impromptu impromptu session in the Droitwich Community Centre’s ballet studio! Talk about happy endings, the moment I walked in there, a symphony of happy chatter met me, coupled with an energy that could only be created by those who live for movement. I even got to participate in the classes, with my romantic tutu giving the other dancers an extra helping of graceful elegance. All in all, it was the best end to a fabulous Tutu Tuesday.
I know that it can be daunting to be the "out-of-place one". Trust me, I've felt the awkwardness of a twirling ballerina amongst the regular crowd! But Droitwich, darling, has got this 'embracing-the-unique' thing going on. My day was full of kind smiles and friendly faces - it's a reminder that everyone deserves to embrace their individuality, and sometimes it's as simple as throwing on a tutu and getting out there.
So, my dears, until next week’s #tututuesday, go forth and embrace your inner ballerina. Spread a little bit of grace and joy wherever you go, and never, ever underestimate the power of a tulle skirt!
