Catford’s Got Tutu Tuesday!

Now, you may think a ballet dancer like me, in her 30s, is all about tights and leotards. Sure, I live and breathe those, but I've got another love in my life, something with a bit more *oomph*. Something with layers of tulle and a little sparkle… that's right, it's a tutu. But not just any tutu, darling, this is Tutu Tuesday, and it’s hitting Catford!

Forget about the catwalk; Catford is where it’s at! This charmingly unassuming South East London district, famous for its market, has become a unexpected style hub. Every Tuesday, Catford transforms with a flash of tulle. From vintage lovers with their layered, frilly styles to chic ladies with sleek modern cuts, it’s all about celebrating the versatility of the tutu.

What does a "Catford Tutu Tuesday" look actually involve? Well, it’s as diverse as the ladies rocking the tutus themselves. Here’s a glimpse of the styles you can expect:

• The Classic Tutu: Think tutus with traditional ballerina lines. There are a lot of them at Catford's Tutu Tuesday! I recently even stumbled across a shop called “The Tutu Den” that specializes in these beauties! I got myself a wonderful pale lavender piece. With it being handmade by a local, and in a truly unique style (a more whimsical design with little feathers!), it felt truly personal, which added even more magic to it.

For someone who wears tutus in the studio all the time, Catford Tutu Tuesday brings a whole new meaning to “tutu”. I guess the essence is that a tutu, in itself, is a symbol of creativity and expression. Whether it’s classic, edgy, or streetwear, Catford gives it its own, unique twist. It makes you embrace a little bit of whimsical flair, something I feel we could all do a little bit more of, regardless of style!
