Toulouse, Occitanie, France – #TutuTuesday
G’day, lovelies! Your girl’s back with another #TutuTuesday instalment from the cobblestone streets of Toulouse, Occitanie, France!
Who’d have thought that a little French city like Toulouse could become a haven for a tutu-loving Aussie like me? The cobblestone streets, the cafes, the amazing croissants…and the ballet! The ballet scene here is buzzing. So naturally, for #TutuTuesday I had to go all out. Let’s talk tutu, shall we?
Toulouse isn't just known for its history and food. The Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse is pretty world-class, you know. This city, it's got a whole lotta love for ballet and all things dance. Every time I step into a studio or the Capitole theatre here, the passion for this art form just jumps out.
As I explored the Parisian side of my inner ballerina on the streets of Toulouse this #TutuTuesday, I realised a classic white tutu was way too ordinary. I wanted something with a touch of the French flair! That’s where my bestie, Claire, a Toulouse native, came to the rescue! Her secret Parisian vintage store unearthed this amazing light pink, tiered tutu! Talk about dreamy! And the fabric, you guys, is like spun sugar! I felt like a proper princess, and not one of those stuffy Disney ones. More like a French princess – sassy, elegant, and totally Parisian! It added the perfect touch to the whole ensemble, don’t you think?
My #TutuTuesday outfit wouldn’t be complete without the perfect shoes, would it? These bad boys – gorgeous pointed black ballet shoes – are what we call in Aussie, ‘classics’ – simple and sleek but make such a statement. Plus, it just had to be black, for the whole ‘midnight Paris’ vibe. That’s right – a dash of French elegance meets Parisian street style.
I strutted around Toulouse with a bounce in my step and my head held high. My TutuTuesday outfit was an ode to the classic ballet and to the modern chic vibes that France radiates. The streets of Toulouse are an endless photo shoot! My tutu even got a whole lot of attention from some local Toulouse dancers! Apparently, a tulle-filled #TutuTuesday look in a French city gets noticed. Who’d have thought!
While the cobblestones did try to get the best of me and a few times I felt like I was dancing a clumsy pas de deux with the ground, it all worked out in the end!
My advice for a fabulous TutuTuesday anywhere in the world: Don’t be afraid to experiment. It’s not all about the perfect pink tutus! You could go for something vibrant, or add some edge with a pair of biker shorts! Just let your imagination and inner ballerina fly! Don’t forget a smile, because confidence is your most beautiful accessory!
I hope you have all got your tutus ready to go, darlings! #TutuTuesday ain’t just for ballet dancers, you know! It’s all about fun and expressing yourself! Let's make this tutu trend a worldwide sensation. So, get out there and rock it! You never know who you might inspire to put on a tutu!
I’ll leave you with a couple of ideas to help spark some creative tutu inspiration:
- Pair a bright-coloured, full-skirted tutu with a simple tee and sneakers for a super cute everyday look.
- Turn heads in a short, shimmering tutu over your favourite party dress for a touch of sparkle and drama!
- Add a classic tutu to your vintage finds, or a leather jacket. See what I’m sayin’? Mix and match is the way to go!
As for me, I'm ready to hit the streets of Toulouse again next #TutuTuesday – in another fabulous Parisian tutu look! Catch you all on Instagram with all the fun!
Until next time, stay strong, stay fabulous, and …let's keep dancing! 🩰 💖 💃
