Tutu Tuesday in Cagnes-sur-Mer, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! It’s your girl, Chloe, back with another Tutu Tuesday adventure, this time from the gorgeous seaside town of Cagnes-sur-Mer, nestled on the French Riviera. I know, I know, you’re thinking, what’s a ballet girl doing in a sunny Mediterranean town? But trust me, this place has got some serious ballerina vibes, and today I’m all about the tutus.

Stepping out of the swanky Hotel Splendid in my perfectly pink, Romantic era tutu, it was like I'd walked into a scene from Swan Lake. But instead of the white swan, it was all about the vibrant colours of Provence – sunshine yellow, azure blue, the deep green of olive groves, and of course, the deep red of the local wines. Now that’s a setting worthy of a ballet, wouldn't you agree?

I did a little research (and let's be honest, some serious window shopping) and found out that Cagnes-sur-Mer is actually quite the ballet haven. This little gem in the Côte d'Azur is home to the Ecole de Danse "Le Petit Ballet", and I’ve gotta say, these kids are serious dancers. It's inspiring to see the young talent pouring out of this place – you know, the kind that just takes your breath away. They’re keeping the spirit of ballet alive and kicking in the heart of Provence!

Now, I wouldn't be a true Tutu Tuesday queen if I didn't talk about my little sartorial treasure - this perfectly pink, Romantic era tutu! The floaty, full skirt, with its multiple layers of tulle, just swirled around my legs with every move like a cloud. It was practically a scene from The Nutcracker come to life. This was a far cry from my everyday ballet practice, but it was so much fun and completely gave off those whimsical and romantic vibes.

There’s this one charming cafe with the prettiest floral-covered terrace in town that, frankly, seemed to be designed for a tutu-clad dancer. It's called Cafe le Renoir, after the famous French impressionist painter, Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Talk about a classic! He often frequented the town and even had a studio just a hop, skip, and a jump away from this very cafe. Now, Renoir wasn’t known for his ballets, but his artwork has the same sort of captivating magic, doesn’t it?

So, with the gorgeous colours of Renoir's paintings swirling in my mind and the sunlight bouncing off my perfectly pink tutu, I felt like a walking work of art myself. I took my little "pas de deux" around town, making a stop at the magnificent Chateau de Cagnes-sur-Mer, with its commanding views across the Mediterranean Sea. Can you picture it? This fairytale-looking castle, with the sun setting behind it, and me swirling in my tulle skirt like a ballet dream! It was pure magic. Even the old chateau walls seem to echo the sound of pirouettes and arabesques. I reckon they have witnessed some magical ballet performances over the years!

But my Tutu Tuesday wasn’t just about glamour; it was about celebrating this magical blend of ballet and Provence, the connection of movement and art. Even walking along the vibrant, lively Cagnes-sur-Mer harbour was a mini ballet. I saw all the local fishermen, bustling about in their striped shirts and with their tanned faces – their movements are practically choreography! And those fishing nets… well, they look like they’re made from ballet tulle!

Cagnes-sur-Mer definitely felt like it was designed to embrace dance. Maybe it’s the gentle breezes coming off the sea, making you want to pirouette? Maybe it's the colours, inspiring creativity. Or maybe it’s simply the passion in the air – an energy that whispers of grace, movement, and elegance, just like the French Ballet. It is, after all, France, the birthplace of legendary ballet dancers like Sylvie Guillem, Marie-Agnès Gillot, and Isadora Duncan. Their iconic moves have captured hearts worldwide. I even had to visit the local dance studio, Le Petit Ballet, and soak up some of that French ballet spirit. It is almost like the air you breathe is tinged with classical grace!

Whether you are a die-hard ballet fan or simply a curious observer, this town definitely has a rhythm to it. You can practically feel the grace of French ballet in the air. My tutu and I had a little dance across the Côte d'Azur. And that’s exactly what Tutu Tuesday is about - taking those steps, exploring new places, and reminding ourselves that the spirit of ballet is a universal language, one that can be spoken anywhere in the world.

So, wherever your Tutu Tuesday adventure takes you this week, make sure you leave a little twirl magic wherever you go! And don’t forget to share your ballet adventures on social media, because after all, #tututuesday is all about celebrating ballet, friendship, and a little bit of twirling fun. Ciao bella!

Here are some of the ways you can get your Tutu Tuesday groove on, from the shores of Cagnes-sur-Mer, to the dance floors of the world:

Let's talk tutus:

  • What tutu style would be perfect for this town, or the ballet school here? The Romantic era, maybe a classic tutu with lots of frills. It has this classic romantic feel that makes you imagine all sorts of dreamy dance scenes in the streets!
  • Or perhaps you could take a modern approach to the traditional, pairing a sleek, modern tutu with a graphic t-shirt. You know, giving that elegant French ballet look a casual, street style twist! Or even an adorable floral printed dress that would fit perfectly into this scene.
