Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Brieuc, Bretagne, France: A Tutu-tiful Journey #tututuesday

G'day, lovelies! It's your favourite Aussie ballerina and blogger here, ready to take you on a whirlwind tour of Tutu Tuesday in the enchanting city of Saint-Brieuc, nestled in the heart of Brittany, France.

I know what you're thinking: France, ballet, tutus? It's a match made in heaven, and believe me, it doesn't disappoint! As I strutted through the cobbled streets of this historic town, I couldn't help but feel a sense of magic in the air. Everywhere I looked, the Parisian flair blended seamlessly with the charming Breton heritage, creating an atmosphere of undeniable chic.

Now, let's get to the good stuff - tutus! It's no secret that tutus are a big deal for us dancers, and trust me, the selection here in Saint-Brieuc is simply divine. From classic romantic tutus to the most modern and daring creations, I was absolutely spoilt for choice. I couldn't resist snagging a few new additions to my collection, after all, who doesn't need more tutus?

Let's start with the classics, shall we? The romantic tutu, a true ballet staple, is the epitome of grace and elegance. With its layers of delicate tulle and romantic charm, it's no wonder this style remains a timeless favourite. I managed to score a stunning white romantic tutu at a boutique near the port, and I simply can't wait to wear it on stage! The sheer fabric danced in the sea breeze, almost whispering secrets of bygone ballerinas and whispered dreams. The little Parisian boutique owner, with her perfectly coiffed grey hair and wise eyes, gave me a knowing smile, as if she knew all the secrets that floated in the air around the shop.

But it wasn't all about traditional styles. My search for the perfect tutu took me through a kaleidoscope of contemporary designs that pushed the boundaries of the traditional. The first stop was "The Dancing Flame" a charming little store just off the main square. Inside, amongst stacks of dance wear, lay an emerald green tutu that made my jaw drop. Imagine my delight! Its layers of sheer, shimmering fabric seemed to be designed to catch the light, reflecting the glimmer of the ocean only meters away. This contemporary masterpiece had to be mine, and after a quick chat with the shop owner - a spirited young woman with a passion for modern dance, we sealed the deal! She even told me some fabulous local tips for the most inspiring modern ballet performances that evening in Saint-Brieuc.

Next on the tutu-tastic itinerary was a visit to a local ballet studio. I was absolutely buzzing with anticipation, eager to discover the talents hidden within the heart of this quaint city. Imagine my surprise when I entered a stunningly renovated studio – its airy space filled with the infectious sounds of tutti, pliés and grand jetés! I had to meet the director! I felt instantly comfortable and charmed. The dance studio had this enchanting atmosphere. She, a graceful dancer, with the same elegance and presence she would have had on the stage before becoming director. She poured over the details of her studio - passionate about the growth of classical ballet and contemporary dance in Saint-Brieuc. This studio has produced exceptional dancers - truly amazing, and not just classical ballet, some amazing modern and even hip-hop dance troupes that just make you move!

Of course, no trip to Saint-Brieuc is complete without indulging in some delicious French delicacies. So after the studio visit I set off to treat myself! First stop - pastries. The smell of freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat wafted through the air. They're practically an art form here. And then the cakes. Oh, the cakes! Imagine creamy éclairs with perfectly piped chocolate icing, buttery mille-feuille and decadent macarons in a rainbow of colours. Let's just say my sweet tooth was more than satisfied.

But enough about me. You want to hear about #tututuesday. What is more divine than enjoying all this gorgeous food and then wandering around the heart of the city. Saint-Brieuc is an artist's delight. Street artists painting portraits in the park, little concerts of French folk and acoustic guitar music, impromptu fashion parades of young dancers... a vibrant, vibrant life. I simply had to document my Parisian fashion fantasy and of course, who else, but the wonderful people in the shops that have provided this beautiful Parisian backdrop!

The heart of it all – tutus, fashion, food and French dance, with its beauty, traditions and contemporary trends – Saint-Brieuc’s local culture simply embraces the world around it and welcomes its art with open arms and a beautiful smile! It was magical! As the day came to a close, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for this incredible experience.
