Tutu Tuesday in Bourg-en-Bresse, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France #tututuesday

G'day, fashionistas and fellow ballet enthusiasts! It's your girl, Lily, back with another installment of "Tutu Tuesday" – and this time, I'm taking you on a journey to the charming town of Bourg-en-Bresse in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France! I know what you're thinking: France and tutus? It's a match made in heaven!

I've always been drawn to the beauty of classical ballet, and French ballet holds a special place in my heart. From the grace and elegance of the Paris Opera Ballet to the captivating storytelling of the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Bordeaux, French ballet has a unique spirit that just captivates me. I just had to get my hands on a stunning tulle creation, fit for a Parisian promenade.

But enough about my Parisian dreams. Bourg-en-Bresse may be smaller than Paris, but it has its own distinct charm and a vibrant artistic community. This time, my tutu is a romantic dream of soft layers of whispery tulle, the epitome of feminine beauty. It was inspired by the beautiful gardens that surround the historic city of Bourg-en-Bresse. Imagine, me twirling under a cherry blossom tree!

I'm not going to lie, it's been an interesting adventure finding the perfect tutu in France. Unlike back in Australia where tutu stores abound, French fashion boutiques often feature only high-fashion, and that includes ballet gear! So I've been combing vintage stores and artisan shops – it's like a treasure hunt. Luckily, I managed to find the most divine tutu. This one's definitely on my "keep" list!

As I was exploring the city centre of Bourg-en-Bresse, I stumbled upon an amazing shop specializing in vintage fashion – can you believe it! My excitement was unreal! The woman who owns the shop, Madame Chantal, is the most stylish lady. We spent ages discussing all the beautiful items that she'd sourced, and the history of each piece was incredible. She even pulled out some lovely lace trims and beads that I may even have to add to my tutu!

Let's get into it, shall we? This is a truly special piece and I love everything about it:

  • **Romantic layers:** It's crafted from delicate tulle, perfectly ruffled, giving it an airy and ethereal quality. Imagine dancing through a meadow!
  • **Lace accents:** There are beautiful lace trims adorning the skirt, just adding an extra layer of delicate loveliness.
  • **The bodice:** My favorite part! The bodice is oh-so-fitted, but not too tight, allowing for flexibility and full movement, especially during that "grand jeté" that I always seem to get stuck on. This one's all about flow.
  • **The colour:** It's an exquisite, dusty rose hue – not too bright, not too pastel. Just the perfect touch of romance. I don't think it will clash with the local red brick buildings. Perfect!

And of course, this amazing piece had to be photographed with the most gorgeous backdrop Bourg-en-Bresse has to offer: The Palace of Justice.

Now, if you haven't heard of the École de Ballet du Pays de Bresse you really need to check it out! They've been nurturing young talent for years, and the quality of dancing is something special, not to be missed! A classic example of "where traditional ballet lives". The École even offers lessons for adult dancers – maybe I'll try a few sessions when I return!

Here in Bourg-en-Bresse, it’s not all about grand ballets and dramatic entrances. There’s this laid-back vibe, which definitely comes across in the people. People genuinely appreciate art, even when it’s out in the open! For example, I saw the coolest graffiti art murals by a group of students right by the local farmer's market! Not only did the artwork look incredible, but it spoke volumes about the love for art. And, a true reflection of French creativity. This reminded me that even when exploring ballet, the essence of what's around you, from the streets to the locals is always important to appreciate.

I hope you loved my Tutu Tuesday post! Be sure to check out more from my travels on my social channels, as I'll be posting a ton more fun pictures and videos of all things ballet in the French countryside! You never know what you'll find! Till next time! #tututuesday
