Tutu Tuesday in Marcq-en-Baroeul, Hauts-de-France, France #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! It's your gal, Maisie here, back with another fabulous post from my travels around the world! I’m on a mission to embrace the beautiful diversity of dance and, this week, that took me to the enchanting city of Marcq-en-Baroeul in the Hauts-de-France region of France. And you know what? They love their tutus just as much as I do. In fact, I found a little gem called Tutu Tuesday, a delightful initiative where the locals don their most stunning tutus, all in the name of ballet and fashion! How bloody brilliant is that? 🇫🇷💃

Now, you all know how much I adore tutus. From the classic romantic tutu, so light and airy, to the fierce and dramatic "paquita" tutu with its structured layers, there’s a style for every mood. But let’s be real, sometimes those layers can get a bit hot! That’s why I was blown away by the ingenuity of the ladies in Marcq-en-Baroeul. They embraced every style, from the classic to the contemporary, proving that a tutu can be more than just a ballet staple. I spotted tutus with funky prints, tutus in bold colours that matched the beautiful, quaint cobblestone streets, and even tutus with a touch of Parisian chic, think feathers, sequins, and that effortless "je ne sais quoi" vibe.

But the real highlight was the spirit. It was all about celebrating ballet, embracing the joy of movement, and having a good old giggle while we were at it! The locals were so welcoming and enthusiastic, and they totally embraced my clumsy attempts at a "pas de bourrée" (sorry, my French is still a work in progress!).

The French ballet scene, you guys, is something else! It’s steeped in tradition and oozes elegance. From the majestic Palais Garnier in Paris, the grandest theatre you ever did see, to the smaller, intimate stages all over the country, you get a sense of that dedication to excellence. And the dancers here, wow! Their technique is exquisite, their movements so precise, you just have to marvel. 💫

My favourite thing about Tutu Tuesday, apart from all the amazing tutus of course, is the sense of community. It's not just about fashion, it's about coming together to share our love for ballet, and creating a space for everyone to express themselves through movement. It reminded me how beautiful and unifying dance can be, transcending cultures and languages. 🙌

Now, let’s talk practicalities. Where did I find my absolute favourite tutu in Marcq-en-Baroeul? I got it from the sweetest little vintage boutique called "Le Balcon d'Antigone" in the heart of the city. They’ve got the most incredible collection of pre-loved tutus from all different eras and styles. It was like stepping back in time, with all the elegance and romance of the French ballet. 🥰

For any Aussie dancers looking to expand their cultural horizons, Marcq-en-Baroeul is a must-visit! The locals are friendly, the food is divine (Bonjour croissants!), and the atmosphere is absolutely buzzing. It's definitely a place to find your inner ballerina, no matter your style or skill level. And if you’re lucky, you might just stumble upon Tutu Tuesday yourself! Don’t forget to pack your tutu, girls!
