Tutu Tuesday in Maubeuge, Hauts-de-France, France #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! So, this little Aussie is in France, and lemme tell ya, it's like a whole new world of tutus. The Frenchies have a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to their ballet wear, and I'm absolutely soaking it all up.

Today was Tutu Tuesday in the charming town of Maubeuge, and it was an absolute dream. It's such a unique thing to have a dedicated day to celebrating tutus, but I'm definitely not complaining! Imagine all the possibilities: tulle in every shade imaginable, frothy layers that practically beg you to pirouette, and of course, the iconic ballet shoes – I'm living my absolute best life!

Maubeuge is a little different from the hustle and bustle of Paris, but in its quiet beauty, there's something so special about their approach to ballet. I found myself captivated by the graceful movements of the local ballet troupe. The artistry and passion were truly something else. And it's so obvious how much they all love what they do. You know how in Australia we often say “she's got the moves like Jagger”? Well, they've got the moves like the ballet greats!

Speaking of the ballet troupe, I'm not gonna lie – their tutus were phenomenal. The colours were vibrant, the styles were stunning, and the craftsmanship was truly exquisite. We're talking everything from the classic Romantic tutus with their sweeping layers of tulle to the more modern variations with bold, geometric patterns and clean lines.

You know I had to try a few on, of course! There's just something about a good tutu – it instantly makes you feel like a ballerina, even if your skills aren't exactly on pointe. This French tutu game is next level! There are some really cool trends. You’ve got the traditional romantic styles with endless tulle – you could easily float down the street on them! But I loved seeing the new age modern tutus in dark colors and strong geometric designs. And just look at the little touches, sequins and delicate ribbons - perfection!

One of my favourite experiences was visiting a small boutique, hidden away in a cobbled street, that specializes in vintage ballet wear. The shop was filled with tutus of every era, each with a story to tell. It's a real treasure trove for those who love vintage ballet fashion – you can literally smell the history of dance on each garment. I walked away with a gorgeous, mid-century tutu in the most beautiful shade of lavender. Honestly, it felt like it came straight out of a dream!

But it wasn't just about the clothes! It was about the sense of community and the passion that these people have for ballet. The entire town was buzzing with excitement for Tutu Tuesday, and everyone I met was so friendly and eager to talk about their love for dance. It's just beautiful to see a small town embrace something so beautiful and art-focused.

While Maubeuge's got a pretty traditional vibe, its modern flair is definitely alive and kicking in their ballet scene. I got the feeling that for them, it's more than just dance. It's a way of life, an art form that brings people together and celebrates the beauty of human movement. And for this ballet-mad Aussie, it was like stepping back in time – you just don't see this type of dedicated artistry like this in Australia. So for my American, English, or European readers - consider making Maubeuge, Hauts-de-France, a stop on your dance journey - it'll have you in absolute awe!

Speaking of dance, I found the most incredible vintage shop today! It had all kinds of stunning pieces, like this gorgeous pair of pink ballet slippers. I picked up a beautiful ivory silk shrug - perfect for an evening out with a sassy little black tutu and those gorgeous pointy-toed shoes. If you’re looking for a touch of French flair in your life - this is the place! And to all my readers, happy Tutu Tuesday! #tututuesday

If you're thinking about going, here are a few things to know before you go. Firstly, book flights in advance, prices for flights to France can jump fast in high season, especially for flights that start and end on a Tuesday! You'll also need a visa to enter France if you're coming from outside of the Schengen area - that's most of us, my Aussie friends. It's super easy to get a tourist visa from Australia though. Just contact the French consulate. Remember to apply well in advance - they take about a month to process, and don't get left in the lurch like that poor Aussie traveler we heard about last week.

Don’t just rely on my travel tips for Maubeuge - always make sure to do your own research. Check out reviews on websites like TripAdvisor, and book your accommodation well in advance – you can find great deals on AirBnB - a favourite with us Aussies.

While you’re in France, remember that their currency is the Euro! Now, you could totally use a debit card or credit card and you can exchange Aussie dollars to Euros. But the best way is probably to make a trip to your bank or find an ATM that does good exchange rates, just make sure it's not a big tourist trap with rip-off charges.

There’s no reason why you should leave your Australian spirit behind while exploring Maubeuge, so I'm going to put on my most Aussie gear – it’s all about embracing your individuality, so bring your best outfits! And don't forget to say “bonjour” to everyone you meet - a touch of French politeness never hurts. You never know - you might find your next French boyfriend while you’re dancing around Maubeuge in your amazing new tutu.

Speaking of dancing, if you love ballet like I do, France is full of dance studios. There's also the fabulous OpĂ©ra National de Paris – you can get tickets from around 100 euros. Remember, though - it's worth buying in advance, especially if you're travelling during peak season. This ballet stuff is really popular in Europe - who'd have thought! You don’t want to miss out on some seriously talented ballet, from Swan Lake to Giselle and The Nutcracker.

Of course, no trip to France would be complete without trying out some delicious French cuisine. Baguettes are a must-have! And try not to be a picky eater because every day, the cafes, patisseries and restaurants have different culinary wonders. From creamy cheeses, the finest wines, to rich pastries. You'll never want to leave the land of good food and good wine.

For the ultimate in Parisian glamour and style, take a trip to Paris. It’s super easy to get to. There are high speed trains - very chic! You’ll be in Paris in around one and a half hours, and with all that free time in between, don’t forget to capture every second of your experience and let the world know what you’re doing on social media. There's just so much inspiration to be found - not only from the breathtaking scenery but also from the unique style of the French locals, especially during the chic fashion weeks. And as I like to say, always try to find something that sparkles!

As for Maubeuge, this small town may not be famous like Paris, but it's a hidden gem, an under-the-radar destination that's just waiting to be discovered. It’s absolutely a ballerina’s dream, with all the lovely architecture, stunning scenery, friendly locals, beautiful countryside and exquisite cuisine.

Don't forget, fashion is all about self-expression. So go forth, dear readers, and let your tutus shine! I can't wait to hear about all the exciting places you're heading to. And remember, tutu Tuesday doesn't have to be just once a week. Let's make every day Tutu Tuesday! #tututuesday
