Fougères, Bretagne, France - Tutu Tuesday: A Parisian Ballet Dream

G’day from sunny (well, almost sunny - it’s a little overcast in this French paradise) Fougères, Bretagne! This French city is just so…charming. Cobblestone streets, cute little cafes, and buildings that could be straight out of a fairytale. Oh, and the pastries? Don't even get me started! But the best part about my little trip here, you ask? It's Tutu Tuesday, of course! 😉

I love a good Tutu Tuesday, and it seems the girls here do too. You wouldn’t believe the amazing ballet studios and dance schools dotted around the city. It’s pretty obvious there’s a strong ballet tradition here, and I can see why. Every time I step into a studio, I’m reminded of what a magical world it is. Ballet is like a second language here, one of passion and dedication.

Speaking of the magic of ballet, let’s chat about those beautiful tutus, the stars of every Tutu Tuesday. Today’s Tutu is from a local shop - I found this gorgeous confection made from a floaty, romantic chiffon. And let me tell you, it’s even better in person! I can’t resist adding a little touch of French flair, so I paired my tutu with a sleek black leotard, some chic pointy-toed flats and a delicate floral headband - channeling that effortless, Parisian vibe.

Let’s talk about the different types of tutus – those swirling, fabulous fashion statements:

  • The Romantic tutu, for example, with its layers of soft tulle and its billowing silhouette, is the epitome of femininity and grace.
  • There’s also the classic traditional tutu with its structured form, layers of stiff tulle and short length – ideal for those beautiful, traditional pieces you see in classics like "Swan Lake."
  • And then we’ve got the contemporary tutu which challenges conventions – some with unexpected textures or shapes that really push boundaries and give an artistic edge.

One thing’s for sure, no matter what type of tutu you're wearing, it’s impossible to be anything but joyful when you’ve got your own personal swirling cloud of tulle.

For me, ballet has always been a passion. It’s the ultimate form of expression, where emotions come alive through every graceful movement. Being in France, especially a city like Fougères with its own rich history and appreciation for the arts, has brought a new depth to my passion. I can feel it here - this shared love of beauty, movement and expression. I feel like my inner ballerina has woken up in this city. So, when in France, I'll certainly embrace my inner Parisian dancer, but of course, with a little Aussie sass!

It’s so special to have found a place where my passion for ballet aligns with the locals. I can already see myself coming back for another visit – Tutu Tuesdays are just too good to miss!

Until next time, stay fabulous and don’t forget, #Tututuesday isn't just about twirling in tulle - it's about celebrating that magic within ourselves.

XOXO,

Your friendly neighbourhood Tutu-loving Aussie Ballerina!
