Tutu Tuesday in Ramonville-Saint-Agne, Occitanie, France
G'day, lovelies! So, this week, my #tututuesday adventures took me to Ramonville-Saint-Agne in the gorgeous Occitanie region of France. As a professional ballerina (well, nearly professional, Iā€™m still doing my Grade 8!) I canā€™t resist the opportunity to check out local dance scenes wherever I go and the tutu has become an essential travel companion. This little French town had some fabulous finds!
Letā€™s dive into some of the incredible #tututuesday inspiration I discovered:
Boutique Ballet in Ramonville-Saint-Agne
My first stop was at "Boutique Ballet," a small, charming shop nestled on Rue de la LibƩration. It was a complete treasure trove for tutu enthusiasts. They had absolutely everything - from classic white tutus to vibrant, contemporary designs. They also stocked gorgeous pointe shoes with ribbons galore, the best kind! They had classic Romantic tutus with the perfect pouter skirt, classic Victorian ones with tiered frills (so good for performing Giselle!) and super exciting contemporary designs that would have looked so amazing in a modern dance production. There was a good variety in materials. Lots of good quality tulle and the classic stiffened silk as well. You know, those really dramatic ones, with all those frills and ruffles, made from a silky fabric that flows and flutters like the wind. It was heaven. I also grabbed some fun little tutus for my nieces (they're just starting out, and we need to keep them interested!).
French Flair at the local ballet studios
You know, the tutu is always a good conversation starter, so I asked the lovely ladies at the shop about the ballet scene in the region, and they pointed me towards the local ballet school. ā€œStudio Danse,ā€ it's called, itā€™s in the centre of town. It had this quaint charm about it. French ballet classes seemed to be as enthusiastic as the classes back home, but there was this unique sense of grace and precision that comes with traditional French training. I got the sense that these young dancers were taught from a very young age to not only understand the choreography but to embrace it - and this became very evident in the elegance of their movement, I swear I felt the 'French flair' as they spun across the stage!
A Parisian Style Inspiration at a local atelier
From the Studio I decided to visit a nearby designer clothing atelier, not actually looking for ballet stuff, but you canā€™t escape a tutu when you're on a #tututuesday mission! They were absolutely gorgeous, just a real example of how a tutu can really make a statement on any woman. It really showed how this tutu can go from stage to street! These tutulettes, with the most beautiful, light, chiffon material that would move gracefully as the woman danced. These outfits had real flair, they had an undeniable ' Parisian style' to them - really showcasing how to bring that ballerina look off the stage and into a modern outfit!
A day full of tutu inspiration in Ramonville-Saint-Agne!
It's been a really special #tututuesday, I really do love to take advantage of travel for ballet-related things as the styles vary around the globe - that cultural variety that really excites my passion for this craft. Every region brings something special, with all its history, the ballet schools, the dance studios, and the individual, talented designers, the whole cultural scene gives it a specific personality that shines and tutu Tuesday is just a great way for a budding ballerina to take a closer look.
