Tutu Tuesday in Chalon-sur-SaƓne, Burgundy, France #tututuesday
Bonjour mes amis! This week I'm channeling my inner ballerina, celebrating the classic dancewear of my heart: the tutu. It's #tututuesday and I'm in Chalon-sur-SaĆ“ne, Burgundy. Thatās right, Iāve swapped the Bondi Beach sunshine for the rolling vineyards of Burgundy, and let me tell you, the fashion scene is something else!
The cobbled streets of Chalon-sur-SaƓne are alive with colour, and the French penchant for chic is on full display. From the artisanal boulangeries selling golden croissants to the boutiques boasting the latest trends, the charm of this city is undeniable. I'm completely enchanted! But let's talk about the main event.
Tutus, A Symbol of Elegance
For #tututuesday, it's all about tutus ā they're an absolute classic! But donāt think these beauties are limited to the theatre. These delicate yet powerful creations transcend their stage roots. I've seen some absolute knockouts, whether in traditional Romantic era style, a contemporary take on the tutu, or a modern twist. Itās inspiring!
As a ballet dancer myself, itās amazing how tutus instantly evoke the grace and elegance of classical dance, especially here in France, where ballet is so ingrained in the cultural landscape. Every twirl in a tutu becomes a tiny homage to history.
The Romance of Chalon-sur-SaƓne
Okay, I canāt rave about tutus without a quick digression on the utterly enchanting beauty of Chalon-sur-SaĆ“ne, a town known for its grand architecture, captivating bridges, and of course, the glorious Burgundy wine country.
Wandering through the old town with its cobbled streets and historic buildings, I stumbled upon the exquisite Chalon-sur-SaƓne Cathedral. Its beautiful Gothic spires pierce the sky, while the intricately carved facades, depicting biblical scenes, just stole my heart. It felt like a scene straight out of a movie.
I took a stroll along the SaƓne river, which threads its way through the heart of the town, mirroring the intricate, flowing movements of ballet. It was incredibly peaceful. I sat by the river bank, sketching the sights. I later shared the sketches online with #tututuesday #France hashtags and, wow, you guys really liked them. It was wonderful to connect with my fellow dancers!
The 'Cāest chic!' Moment
Letās get back to tutus. It was back in a boutique near the river where I had that āCāest chic!ā moment. It was this small store bursting with colour, and the walls were practically lined with vintage clothing. A dusty velvet curtain concealed the back corner, and as I peeled it open, a rack of delicate white tutus appeared like some kind of ballet fairyās dream closet.
Imagine, a row of vintage tutus in every shade imaginable, each beautifully crafted from soft fabrics, with delicate lace embellishments and elegant lines. It was pure heaven. Every tutu told its own story, hinting at grand ballrooms, a time of elegance and grace. It truly transported me.
I spent what seemed like an eternity browsing those magical pieces of fabric and history, snapping photos for my social media of course!
#tututuesday, Chalon-sur-SaƓne Style
I picked out a beautiful white tulle tutu with a single pale blue ribbon threaded through the waist. The delicate fabric was the epitome of feminine grace, the lightness reminding me of a ballerina leaping in the air. The style was classic, and as I whirled and twirled in the small shop, a real Parisian elegance swept over me. This wasn't just fashion. It was artistry!
In the end, I couldnāt leave the shop without it. This is a Tutu Tuesday treasure to keep. The tutu is more than an outfit for me ā itās an attitude!
Chalon-sur-SaĆ“ne ā a small town with a big fashion heart. Who would have thought that I would be falling in love with ballet again, here, on a whim, with a vintage tutu?
