Tutu Tuesday in Audincourt, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté: A French Affair #tututuesday
G'day from your favourite Aussie ballerina, struttin' my stuff across the globe and documenting it all for you, my fellow dance enthusiasts! Today's Tutu Tuesday takes us to a quaint little town nestled in the heart of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France - Audincourt. It's not exactly the capital of fashion (sorry, Paris!), but that doesn't mean we can't sprinkle a little tutu magic, does it?
Let's be honest, tutus are a dancewear staple that can take on a whole new life depending on where you wear them. Think about it: a delicate, dreamy, airy tulle skirt for a serene classical piece versus a sleek, tight-fitting, dramatic tutu for a modern dance masterpiece. You're telling me you haven't dreamed of twirling down the streets of a French village, Tutu Tuesday or no? Well, Audincourt made that dream a reality, in its own unique way, and guess what? It was pretty darn amazing.
The day started like any other: I was sipping my café au lait, taking in the Parisian charm of the local bakery (they've got a seriously impressive pain au chocolat, seriously!) and prepping my Insta feed for a Tutu Tuesday upload, of course. A cheeky snap in a simple, traditional white tutu with a touch of lavender embroidery to match the region's signature hues. I decided to take a stroll through the historic centre of town, feeling the crisp air invigorating my spirit, and that's when it happened…
Imagine my surprise when I stumble upon a quaint little dance studio. There it was, nestled between a charming chocolaterie and a vintage bookstore, practically beckoning me inside! The window display was full of vibrant tutus - everything from whimsical and colourful creations that would make a Disney princess jealous to the classic romantic, billowing tutus with a sophisticated edge. And as a bonus, I spotted a stunning array of dance shoes that even I, as a seasoned dancer, had to admire! I mean, how can you not admire the intricate stitching of a pair of hand-crafted ballet shoes, crafted with care and designed to support a dancer's every movement, their life story written in every single stitch?
I was ready to grab my camera and capture some magical Tutu Tuesday content. As I strolled in, the sweet smell of sandalwood, mixed with a gentle aroma of leather and dust, flooded my senses. A world of ballet, right there in Audincourt! The walls were lined with dance photos, and the sound of music, a beautifully melodic waltz played softly in the background, resonated with the very air inside the studio. I was instantly transported to a place where I felt I could lose myself in the elegance and beauty of ballet. You know what they say, you're never too old to embrace a childhood passion.
I was mesmerized as I wandered around. I was like a child in a candy store, examining each and every detail of the tutus and dance shoes with rapturous attention. The owners, a charming older couple with a passion for dance, couldn’t have been more welcoming. They shared stories of local dancers, their successes, and the deep-rooted culture of dance in the region. It's clear to see why the art of ballet flourishes here.
The joy of seeing so many tutus gathered together in one space – well, it’s no different to what I feel at a beautiful dress shop. Just look at those cascading tulle layers, the graceful swish as they flow through the air – it’s practically an art form in its own right. Even a ballerina can’t resist that intoxicating swirl! They say you can’t wear a tutu unless you’re a ballerina – but who makes those rules, I ask you? I mean, if you can rock a little black dress for a night out, you can totally wear a tutu around a French village! It’s all about confidence and embracing that sense of fun. It’s not about perfection; it's about freedom, artistry, and feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin.
Just as I thought my tutu adventure had reached its peak, the owner showed me a treasure hidden in the back of the studio. A small room overflowing with meticulously arranged pointe shoes - vintage pairs from different decades, each telling a story. It was a mini museum of dance history. The owner, with eyes that sparkled with the fire of a true dance devotee, recounted anecdotes about their provenance, some even from local dancers of legendary status. I felt a rush of pure appreciation. There’s something truly awe-inspiring about those tiny, sturdy shoes - they carry a story, a life, a passion. And to see them preserved, cherished, and passed on, it brought back fond memories of my own ballet days.
As I took my final bow in this ballet-loving paradise, the owners wished me well. "May your tutu adventures never cease, dear dancer! It was a joy to share our love for the dance with you!" they exclaimed, and as I waved goodbye to them and the exquisite array of tutus, a realization dawned on me - that tutu magic is everywhere. It’s in those vibrant hues of a ballet skirt, the intricate details, the way a dancer’s form seems to transcend gravity. It’s even in the smallest things – the meticulous placement of a needle and thread in a pair of pointe shoes.
There is an enchantment in the art of dance that lingers even after you've left the stage, and Audincourt had proven this with a delicate grace that I wasn’t expecting to discover on Tutu Tuesday. You know what, sometimes, the most magical moments happen unexpectedly, and you just have to let those moments whisk you away and bring you to unexpected places. Maybe it's time we all embraced a little bit more tutu magic in our lives – the power to express ourselves through movement, creativity, and the magic of dance. It’s all around us! It’s in that classic, Romantic tutu, in that bold and sassy contemporary piece, in those tiny ballet shoes that hold a story, in the swish of a skirt on a dance floor, in the expression of emotions, the storytelling in every movement, the strength and beauty, the freedom and passion. So next time you're feeling lost or needing a touch of joy, go grab your own Tutu, throw it on and let loose, dance in the streets, channel your inner ballerina – or even just admire the graceful movements of dancers as they pass by – you'll find your own little piece of Tutu Tuesday magic! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some new photos for my Insta-feed to upload. It’s definitely gonna be a Tutu Tuesday that I’ll never forget! #tututuesday #ballet #frenchballet #dance #tutus #balletstyle #frenchvillage #audincourt #bourgognefranchecomté
