Tutu Tuesday in Carbon-Blanc, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France: #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! This week's Tutu Tuesday has been a whirlwind, and I'm back in the land of croissants and chateaux after a spectacular trip to the beautiful Carbon-Blanc in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France.

Let me tell ya, this trip was a dream come true! Not only was the French countryside breathtaking (seriously, the vineyards were endless!), but I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know the vibrant dance scene here. And guess what? Ballet is alive and well in Carbon-Blanc. The community is incredibly passionate and the talent is simply astounding.

Now, when I picture French ballet, images of the Palais Garnier and grand Paris Opera houses often come to mind. But in Carbon-Blanc, it's all about a more intimate, local approach to the art form. I found myself attending classes in a beautifully renovated studio tucked away down a cobbled street. You could really feel the passion oozing out of the walls, from the teachers' dedication to the students' unwavering commitment. It reminded me so much of the joy and camaraderie you find in dance studios back home in Australia.

On this adventure, I even got a chance to explore a little bit of local history and architecture, learning about the region's influence on traditional French dance styles. Did you know the graceful movements and the attention to detail found in ballet can be traced back to the royal courts of the French monarchy? It’s no wonder France is renowned for its ballet artistry! In Carbon-Blanc, you can feel this heritage woven into the fabric of their dance community, adding a real sense of elegance and history to every performance.

One of the things I love most about exploring ballet in different cultures is seeing how diverse the styles can be. While tutus are a constant, they can be as different as a sunny Parisian morning to a stormy night over the English Channel. In Carbon-Blanc, I was mesmerized by the way they incorporated elements of their local history and cultural heritage into the design of their tutus. It’s a beautiful marriage of tradition and contemporary flair.

My favorite tutu, you ask? It's hard to pick just one, but this one totally stood out: it was a soft, blush-pink "Romantic" tutu that floated around like a ballerina's dream. It reminded me of the exquisite grace and lightness of movement that is so synonymous with the Romantic era of ballet. Oh, and let’s not forget the "American" tutus— with a classic design and a stunning pop of color— they totally embody that classic American dynamism and zest for life! My favorite look? A white, fluffy, multi-layered tutu paired with a bright, sunshine yellow bodice! So much fun and energy, it felt like dancing under the summer sun in the south of France!

You know what? I can't talk about France without mentioning the delicious food. It was simply magnifique! I mean, who could resist freshly baked croissants and delicate macarons? And let's not forget the wine. Honestly, every sip was like a little taste of heaven.

But beyond the food, it's the people that make this region so special. The dance community in Carbon-Blanc is a melting pot of cultures and ages, everyone working together to bring ballet to life. There's a real sense of camaraderie and support, and the energy is truly contagious.

And, of course, it wouldn't be Tutu Tuesday without some tutu talk. So, here are a few things that I learnt while in Carbon-Blanc:

  • A **Romantic tutu** is always a good choice, especially in the French countryside. It’s super delicate and airy, like dancing on clouds.
  • You can't go wrong with a classic **American tutu** if you want a little more color and oomph!
  • Embrace a bit of whimsy and try a **Russian tutu** that’s longer and flowing - like dancing through a fairytale.

Now, I know you're all itching to see some of my Parisian #TutuTuesday photos. So here they are, all hot off the press! Let me know what you think!

Now, let's be honest, this tutu-loving heart is always planning her next adventure. I already have my sights set on my next French destination – Toulouse is calling, and it’s going to be another epic #TutuTuesday for the books! Stay tuned, lovelies.
