Tutu Tuesday in Bihorel, Normandy, France: A Parisian Ballerina's Dream #tututuesday

Bonjour mes amies! I'm Maisie, your friendly Aussie ballerina, taking a little detour from my Parisian ballet studio to share a Tutu Tuesday adventure in the charming town of Bihorel, nestled in the beautiful region of Normandy, France.

You see, this past Tuesday, I stumbled upon the most magical thing. As I was strolling through the cobbled streets of Bihorel, lost in the wonder of this picturesque town with its historic houses and enchanting gardens, I spied a beautiful ballet studio hidden away. And wouldn't you know it, it was hosting a special Tutu Tuesday event!

My heart skipped a beat (or maybe that was just the music playing from within). You see, as a dancer, I have a thing for tutus. They’re more than just a costume, they’re a symbol of dreams, artistry, and pure grace. Every time I don one, I feel a bit of magic wash over me, a spark that lights a fire in my soul. And that's exactly how I felt as I entered the Bihorel studio on this special Tutu Tuesday.

The studio was bursting with local ballerinas of all ages, some young, just beginning their ballet journey, others seasoned dancers with a lifetime of pirouettes and fouettes under their belts. I was immediately drawn to the air of excitement and shared passion for this art form.

The atmosphere buzzed with creativity and enthusiasm as dancers chatted, adjusting their tutus, and excitedly sharing stories about their favourite pieces. Some were clad in the classic Romantic tutu, those ethereal swirling layers of tulle that whisper of dreams and flights of fancy. Others sported the elegant more structured tutu styles like the tutu paquet , with its fitted bodice and short layers, evoking a sense of strength and poise.

As the music filled the room, I watched as these ballerinas effortlessly glided through their paces. Their bodies moved with a fluidity and grace that took my breath away. They spoke of a history of ballet in Normandy, with a strong connection to the classic ballet technique and the passion for its artistic legacy.

There was something truly special about witnessing their passion first hand. They weren’t just dancers, they were storytellers, artists bringing stories to life with every plié and arabesque. In that moment, I was completely transported to another world. I forgot about everything else and simply reveled in the joy and beauty of ballet.

Now, if you’re a ballerina with a love for tutus, you have to come to Bihorel on a Tuesday. Trust me, it’s a truly magical experience. This place isn’t just about the tutu, it’s about the spirit of dance that takes root in every ballerina’s heart, and blooms brilliantly on Tutu Tuesday.

Oh, and speaking of tutus, I couldn’t resist getting in on the fun myself! I whipped out my favourite tutu (a classic Romantic, naturally), a gorgeous, flowing cloud of tulle in soft peach and rose. You see, every ballerina, regardless of age or background, has her favourite tutu, and mine whispers of dawn, a soft romantic glow against the backdrop of a classical ballet studio.

As the other dancers admired my tutu (let’s face it, a girl loves a little tutu compliment!) we practised our adagio and fouette turns, the swirling tulle an intoxicating part of the performance.

While I have a very full ballet schedule at my studio in Paris, this experience in Bihorel showed me there’s a unique magic to be found in ballet everywhere you go. It’s an art form that transcends language and cultural boundaries, connecting all who dance with an undeniable passion and energy. From Paris to Bihorel, the story of ballet unfolds beautifully across the French landscape.

And, with that, I'll leave you to dream of your own tutu adventures. I hope this glimpse into my Tutu Tuesday experience has inspired you, darlings. Remember, it's never too late to explore the world of dance and to share your love of the art form with those around you. Until next time, stay fabulous, my darlings!
