Tutu Tuesday in Liancourt, Hauts-de-France, France #tututuesday G'day lovelies! Well, it wouldn't be Tuesday without a tutu, would it? Today, I'm taking my love of all things tulle and tutus to the charming little town of Liancourt, Hauts-de-France, in France. Now, this isn't your typical Parisian ballet scene, no, no, this is where things get *real* interesting. Liancourt's ballet scene is just as vibrant and captivating as any you'll find in the bigger cities, with passionate local dancers and a real sense of community around the art form.
Why Tutu Tuesday? Firstly, it's the perfect excuse to rock a tutu, even if it's just in my living room. It’s the ultimate symbol of femininity and grace – all things we love to channel, right? And secondly, it’s a fun way to celebrate ballet and all its forms, no matter where you are. I've got friends across the globe who are making a statement with their own Tutu Tuesdays, and it’s become such a wonderful movement in the ballet world.
The Tutus of Liancourt The thing about Liancourt is that the tutus are all about classic elegance, but with a little bit of a French twist. Imagine the kind of tutus you'd see in those classic, elegant French ballet companies – all soft, flowing tulle and those intricate details that make a tutu so stunning. But you can also see some seriously chic variations: from contemporary tutus, those dramatic floor-length wonders that add a modern flair, to shorter, flirtier numbers that are perfect for jazz and contemporary work. The ballerinas here definitely aren’t afraid to experiment. Some of them even like to throw in some splashes of colour – maybe a hint of lavender or a pop of scarlet red – just enough to add a little "je ne sais quoi" without overpowering the whole look.
My Tutu of Choice Today, I went for a classic Romantic tutu – those with several layers of tulle, cascading downwards to create a flowing and ethereal effect. But with a touch of French flair, of course! Think ivory tulle, hand-sewn by some talented seamstress in a nearby town, with delicate lace trimming the hemline. It’s an absolute dream and perfectly encapsulates the elegance of the Parisian style but with a hint of understated chic – the kind of tutu that whispers, "I'm not trying to steal the show, I'm here to showcase the beauty of movement."
Ballet in France: A Dance of Elegance There's a real reverence for ballet here in France. It’s a part of their heritage, deeply woven into their cultural fabric. In a place where every single detail is meticulously considered – from the cuisine to the architecture – it makes perfect sense that the local ballerinas here are truly meticulous in their craft. They take their technique so seriously, with every plié, every développé, every pirouette being executed with a precision that’s truly impressive. It’s a pleasure to watch their performances. You feel a sense of true connection – not only between the dancers but with the audience.
My Afternoon in Liancourt I took a wander around the charming cobbled streets, checking out the boutiques – seriously, I was in tulle heaven – and sipping coffee at the local cafe, where they even serve it in beautifully patterned cups, naturally! The little cafes here really feel like something out of a storybook, so utterly quaint and sweet! It's easy to see why artists and dreamers like to linger here, captivated by its laid-back atmosphere and gentle energy. It was the perfect setting for my own personal "Tutu Tuesday" adventure.
Here’s to a little dose of magic! I really hope I've inspired you all to celebrate a bit of ballet magic in your own way, even if it’s just by spinning around in your favourite tutu! Who knows, maybe you'll find a new little gem in your own town – or maybe you’ll even start your own #tututuesday tradition! Till next time, Chloe xxx
