Tutu Tuesday in Villiers-sur-Orge, ÃŽle-de-France, France #tututuesday
Bonjour, mes amis!
As an Aussie girl with a passion for all things twirling, I'm thrilled to be spending this beautiful Tuesday in Villiers-sur-Orge, ÃŽle-de-France, the home of some truly spectacular ballet schools.
Let's be honest, what's more iconic than a tutu? This iconic garment of tulle, satin and chiffon has been a mainstay of ballet since its early days and let's be honest, who doesn't love a good swirl?
I’m finding myself utterly captivated by the French love for the arts and ballet especially, it truly feels like a cultural heartbeat in these streets. From the opulent grand theatres to the charming, intimate studios tucked away on side streets, there’s a certain je ne sais quoi about French ballet. It’s all about poise, grace and artistry, something we Australians definitely aspire to achieve with our own style.
Here in Villiers-sur-Orge, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a studio called *Ecole de Danse Le Petit Prince* a quaint little haven where talented ballerinas-in-the-making practice their pirouettes. The ballet classes are as varied as the personalities that grace their floor. I spotted aspiring ballerinas sweating it out in traditional, Romantic-era tutus, these are always my favourite for their sheer and ethereal quality. Others were clad in sleek contemporary tutus that offered them complete freedom of movement - the perfect partner for the bolder choreography they were practicing. And of course, no ballet school is complete without the classic, traditional tutus with the layered skirts, always looking their best as ballerinas take a graceful bow!
What is amazing about tutus is that they’re always evolving. Whether they're classic or contemporary, there’s a certain magic about seeing a dancer pirouette in a beautiful, billowing tutu, their every move imbued with elegance and a hint of rebellion. They represent more than just clothing - they symbolise artistry, power, dedication, and ultimately, dreams taking flight!
This morning I watched a local competition and the talent on display was just unbelievable! These ballerinas were so full of heart and so very dedicated - the sheer power they had and control over their movements was truly awe-inspiring. Seeing their talent, made me realise how fortunate I am to be sharing this beautiful craft with fellow artists across the globe. And as we're all familiar with the saying - *practice makes perfect* and that's exactly what I saw in Villiers-sur-Orge, dedication in every plie and graceful, flawless turns!
Today, I encourage you to wear a tutu for the day, no matter your age or where you are in the world. The sheer joy that this symbol of dance brings to people can not be described. So if you’re on your own or hanging with your besties – rock the look and celebrate Tutu Tuesday!

As a proud Aussie ballet enthusiast, I just have to say - whether we’re in Sydney or Villiers-sur-Orge, we're all united by a shared love for dance! The grace, elegance and sheer strength required to be a dancer can only be understood by someone who wears the tutu and lives by its spirit!
