Tutu Tuesday in Ascq, Hauts-de-France: A Parisian Whirlwind

G'day, lovelies! It's your girl, Maisie, reporting live from the chic streets of Ascq, Hauts-de-France, France. I've swapped the sunshine of Sydney for the cobblestone charm of Europe, and let me tell you, it's been an absolute blast!

Now, you all know how much I love a good Tutu Tuesday, and trust me, I've been doing my best to keep the tradition alive even in the heart of Parisian elegance. I mean, what better way to celebrate the magic of ballet than with a twirl in a perfectly pouffed tutu?

This week, I was lucky enough to catch a performance by the local ballet company, Ballet du Nord, at the gorgeous Palais des Beaux-Arts. The performance was utterly breathtaking – they absolutely nailed every pirouette and arabesque. It reminded me how much I adore the grace and power of French ballet.

Speaking of power, my tutu game has been seriously stepped up since arriving in France. From the classic romantic tutus, with their soft, ethereal layers, to the more contemporary styles with their sleek lines and bold colours, the French approach to the tutu is both exquisite and daring. I'm currently obsessing over a stunning white tutu I picked up at a vintage shop in Lille – it’s absolutely perfect for adding a touch of classic elegance to any outfit.

So, how do you rock a tutu in a city known for its fashion prowess? Here are my tips for making a statement with a twirl:

  • Keep it Classic: A simple, single-layered tutu with a satin ribbon is always a timeless choice. It’s easy to dress up or down and pairs perfectly with a sleek blazer or a flowy silk blouse.
  • Embrace Colour: If you're feeling adventurous, don't be afraid to experiment with vibrant colours and patterns. A bold, colourful tutu is a surefire way to make a statement on the streets of Ascq. You could even try a fun patterned tutu!
  • Don't Be Afraid to Mix and Match: Tutues are surprisingly versatile. You can wear them with jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look, or dress them up with a cocktail dress and heels for a more sophisticated vibe.

Speaking of cocktails, my exploration of the French food and beverage scene has been nothing short of delicious. Croissants and wine – who knew it could be this good? I'm seriously considering booking a flight back next week just for the food.

But enough about my belly! Let's talk about the #Tututuesday community! I know you love a good tutu just as much as I do, and I’m super curious about your latest twirls. I'm loving the sheer tulle skirts I’ve been seeing – they’re so light and airy. Are you guys loving a specific tutu style at the moment? Share your faves with me!

Remember, the best way to celebrate Tutu Tuesday is to wear a tutu, have a laugh, and most importantly, don't be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina. Just keep on twirling, and keep sharing those snaps on social media – #Tututuesday in Ascq is just getting started!

Keep dancing, loves!

XOXO,

Maisie
