Tutu Tuesday in Fort-Mardyck, Hauts-de-France, France: #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! I'm Chloe, and I'm your resident Aussie ballet dancer and blogger. From the vibrant dance halls of Sydney to the picturesque cobblestone streets of Europe, I've been lucky enough to dance my way through some incredible cities. Today, I'm channeling my inner ballerina in Fort-Mardyck, Hauts-de-France, France. This stunning seaside town with its charming canals and history has me utterly captivated. And what better way to explore this enchanting place than with a touch of tutu magic?

Fort-Mardyck is a historical town and definitely not a centre for ballet, but who says ballet has to be confined to traditional studios and stages? That's where Tutu Tuesday comes in, and this week's location is a unique one. This global phenomenon is all about embracing the joy of tutus - whether it's a full-length, romantic classical style or a playful, modern number - every Tuesday. It's a chance for everyone, no matter their dance experience, to express themselves through the language of movement and embrace the joy of being a ballerina, even if it's just for a day. I know it's a strange combo, this old French city and ballet tutus, but hey, life's an adventure, right?

I've decided to channel the energy of the region for my #tututuesday look. Think pastel tones reflecting the hues of the charming canals and whimsical florals nodding to the beauty of the gardens. Imagine a powder blue, classic tutu, with an airy chiffon layer in the lightest of blush pinks – absolutely divine for a gentle waltz across cobbled streets. And wouldn't a playful tulle skirt, just skimming the ankles, with splashes of vibrant pink and turquoise evoke the joy of the canals. These would be the perfect way to blend in with this picturesque, historic city.

Of course, for a full Tutu Tuesday experience, a little ballet history is a must. It's a beautiful truth that ballet in France has a long, illustrious history. Did you know? Paris is considered the heart of French ballet, home to prestigious institutions like the Paris Opera Ballet and the renowned École de Danse de l'Opéra de Paris. These institutions have trained some of the world's greatest ballerinas, shaping the art form as we know it. While in Fort-Mardyck, we can't visit world-class ballet schools or attend major ballet performances, but there are local ballet classes where aspiring ballerinas and dancers can hone their craft and keep the love of the art alive.

To celebrate #tututuesday and dance in Fort-Mardyck I think there are many options. A simple pirouette in front of the historical ramparts, a graceful grand jeté across a charming cobbled bridge. But my absolute favourite? Maybe a choreographed sequence reflecting the stories of the fort's past. Imagine waltzing through the fortified entrance, each twirl telling the tales of battles won and peace enjoyed.

So, how can you be a part of Tutu Tuesday in your town or city?
