Tutu Tuesday in Small Heath: A Whirlwind of Fashion and Frills
Hello lovelies! Itâs your girl, Tilly here, bringing you all the hottest fashion news from the streets â and stages â of Birmingham. Today, weâre diving headfirst into a sartorial adventure thatâs turning Small Heath on its head: Tutu Tuesday!
Now, you might be thinking, âTutus in Small Heath? Whatâs going on?â Let me tell you, this isnât your typical ballerina-on-pointe scene. Itâs a delightful explosion of colour, personality, and yes, a touch of tutu-licious fun. Itâs a day when even the most discerning fashionistas are putting their best feather boa forward.
This is no ordinary fashion trend, darling. Tutu Tuesday is an explosion of colour and personality thatâs taking Small Heath by storm! And it's all thanks to the brilliant #TutuTuesday movement, a brainchild of a local shop called âThe Thread Bazaarâ.
Imagine walking down the street and seeing a group of friends, arms linked, wearing pastel tutus with shimmering sequinned jackets. Youâve got grandmas strutting their stuff in fluffy tulle skirts paired with vintage floral cardies, mums wearing bold red tutus with leather biker jackets and kids spinning around in rainbow tutus.
Thereâs no strict rule book when it comes to #TutuTuesday, just a collective agreement to add a sprinkle of whimsy and joy to the everyday. This dayâs not just about tutus â it's about embracing creativity and expressing ourselves, even if it means twirling around a local coffee shop in a bright pink tutu.
Whatâs incredible about #TutuTuesday in Small Heath is that itâs really captured the hearts (and wardrobes!) of the community. The streets are alive with laughter and excitement, everyoneâs eager to join in and show off their individual flair.
I headed down to âThe Thread Bazaarâ today to get the lowdown from owner Sophie. It was packed! The place was bursting with everything from traditional romantic tutus in ivory and classic black, to bold rainbow numbers. Sophie was thrilled: âThis week was absolutely buzzing! People are so creative, I canât even!â She added, âI really hope we can keep it going. Iâd love to see this happening all over the place!â.
Thereâs a definite artistic buzz to the day, a feeling of shared community, and the chance to just let loose and have fun!
Of course, my love for all things dance means that I couldnât resist trying out some of the different tutu styles, which just made this day even better.
Here's a little rundown of some of my tutu favorites:
- The Romantic Tutu: These are what I think most people think of when they imagine a tutu: soft layers of chiffon or tulle, in classic ballet shades like pink or ivory. Perfect for twirling under the moonlight!
- The Statement Tutu: I'm talking bright, bold colors with lots of layers. These are for the tutu-loving fashionista who wants to make a big impact!
- The Asymmetrical Tutu: If you're looking for a bit of edge and uniqueness, the asymmetrical tutu is for you. The short layer at the front and longer layers at the back give this style a real drama queen feel.
- The Casual Tutu: This is for those who want to embrace the tutu vibe but not necessarily want to wear a full skirted one. Think denim skirts with tulle details, cotton t-shirts with tulle panels, or a layered denim skirt and a statement tutu overlay.
- The Tutus to Try at Home: One of my favourite things about this trend is the adaptability of it. Try using old tulle fabric to make your own tutu creations!
Itâs clear that #TutuTuesday is more than just a fashion day. Itâs about spreading joy, empowering people to be creative and playful, and bringing a touch of magic to Small Heath.
If you are lucky enough to live in the Birmingham area, join the fun! Grab a tutu and make a splash!
Don't forget to tag your pics with #TutuTuesday! Stay stylish and tutu-licious my friends!
