Tutu Tuesday in Armidale, New South Wales
G’day, fashionistas! It’s your girl, Ella, here from Ella's Ballet Blog, bringing you the lowdown on all things tutu in the heart of Australia. We’re in the charming city of Armidale, New South Wales. It’s been a chilly mornin' here in Armidale but the fashion is fire!
Now, let's talk about #Tututuesday, it’s more than just a hashtag, it’s a movement! It’s about celebrating the tutu in all its glory and adding a sprinkle of ballet magic to our day-to-day. In my opinion, Armidale has embraced this movement in a seriously stylish way.
The Tutus of Armidale
- Romantic Tutus: First off, we saw a ton of those soft, romantic tutus made with multiple layers of tulle, those ones that float around you like a dream. There was a real “Giselle” feel to a few of these outfits – perfect for a whimsical and effortless look, which I love, because that's what Tutu Tuesday is about.
- Classic Tutus: Now, who can resist a good old-fashioned classic tutu? We saw several ladies sporting the iconic “Swan Lake” tutus, you know the ones, a single layer of stiff tulle that creates that iconic ballerina shape, it never fails to impress. These ladies were rockin’ their Tutu Tuesdays!
- Contemporary Tutus: I loved this – several of Armidale's fashionistas were giving the tutus a modern twist with those short tutus with bold colours and abstract shapes, these are the tutus you'd see in contemporary ballet performances! Some were pairing their tutus with casual wear and others were going full-on dramatic - we love a statement piece!

- Don’t forget! There is a strong ballet tradition in Australia! From Sydney Opera House to Melbourne Theatre Company, our country is home to world-class talent. Armidale, in particular, is a hub of talent, from young ballerinas starting their journey to experienced dancers, we’ve got a strong community here. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such talent!
